Nothing to worry about, it is normal when you're in the dark.
In the past I've have had my brakes glowing red while coming down the back side of Mt Glorious.

There is a classic advert from the very early seventies of the E49 Hemi six pack (245cubes with 3 x 45mm Webers) on the dyno in italy as they tuned the webers and the extractors were bright red. They only made 140 E49s, try finding one now.
That would be this one. One of the best car ad pics ever!

Yep that would be the one......farkin' classic.
And Jet-Hot or HPC coating costs about $250 for a set of 4cyl headers. Well worth it.

Cool pic...
Sory nube question dont you coat and wrap them up to prevent heat going into the engin bay.
I saw the wrap stuff at repco doesnt seem to weigh a lot, could be a some fun to put on.

extractor wrapping is not fun to put on! even more so if the extractors are already on the engine. a lot of multiple looping if your using one whole length without cutting into smaller pieces & the small particles that comes off & get into the air, it dries out ones throat.

It isn't at all technically challenging, just awkward and annoying while on the car.

I wouldn't worry about the extractors glowing.
Some years ago, I saw a Holden on a dyno, and the turbocharger was so hot, that you could just make out the impellor INSIDE the turbocharger spinning!
Now THAT's HOT!

Wrapping your extractor can cause it to warp. Even though that's debatable, but I got mine coated, its around $200 and works. Looks better too IMO
