Trouble with 5th gear

Postby Juffa » Wed Jan 07, 2009 9:52 pm

Recently I have had trouble selecting 5th gear. Previously I have pushed the stick to the right as far as it would go and then up into 5th gear. Now, if I push the stick to the far right I cannot get it into 5th. I have to reduce the amount that I move the stick to the right, which takes more concentration. I'm certainly no expert in this, but should'nt there be some type of gate/stop that stops me from pushing the stick to far?
I have the brass bushing fitted at the bottom of the stick, bought as part of a recent group buy.

Had a thought about this last night.... have you looked at the gearstick housing Jeff?
Perhaps it's as simple as the three bolts coming loose and thus the stick is not moving/levering properly?

Thanks Andrew, will investigate this week.

I also had a look on the big forum and found some other possible causes, but many of those posts were more around not being able to select 5th gear at all.

good thinking there andrew. this is a tricky one to figure out , but yeah those 3 bolts seem to always come loose ( i had to loctite mine into place) so it's a good place to start .
