Mazdaspeed engine mounts finally in...

Postby ducktape69 » Sat Jan 10, 2009 1:47 am

Well i finally chucked in the new mazdaspeed engine mounts. the extra stiffness has really re-defined the cars character during cornering. the nb8b 'notchy gearbox' shift is now BUTTER SMOOTH. the clutch shudder is not noticeable anymore.
on the downside, the car hates bumpy roads even more now...

check out the old mounts. both clearly cracked...

funny u ask that wun...
in take off, the engine sounds louder....but if u listen closely, it sounds more the like very tight vibrations through the chassis. the heavier vibrations that you could FEEL with the old mounts have turned into a tight vibration tha you can only HEAR.

Well I've found them listed at Corksport http://corksport.com/store/category/4v9 ... ngine.html for $69 a pair. MX5Mania have them listed at $75 each so even inc postage and freight they should be cheaper.. Might give them a try..

i got these from boags GB a while back for $100 from memory.
labour involved is about 2 hours worth if u have a hoist available.

Forgive my ignorance but could someone explain the theory behind them?

theory?
the only difference between the OEM and these mazdaspeed mounts is the polturethane/rubber stiffness of the mazdaspeed mounts are quite a bit stiffer/harder. as with anything u harden up on the car, better handling basically.

The Mazdaspeed mounts are 35% stiffer then factory mounts and therefore reduce engine/gb movement which results in a better shift feel etc etc. Few downsides are increased noise and vibrations.

I have contacted Corksport in the US to see what postage will be for 1 set and also for 3 sets so I'll keep everyone posted. Maybe a mini group buy is in order :D

I guess you need engin hoist to install? (I threw away the engin hoist bits on my engin).

Mania's price has come down a lot. They were $120 + postage when I organised the GB.

I got them from Corksport.

Thats US$44 each Wun whereas Corksport are US$69 for two so it seems Corksport are really cheap compared to others and even with the exchange rate and shipping it will still work out to be the best option depending on shipping costs.

MX5Mania are AUD$75 each plus postage so Corksport should be heaps cheaper especially if we get an order for three sets...

it would be a lot easier with the engine hoist wun.

you could use a trolley jack but a lot more work trickier.
