New toy

Postby 1blue5 » Sat Jan 10, 2009 3:45 pm

Let me introduce myself. I have been checking this site daily over the past several months and am finally grinning from cheek to cheek to post this, I pick up my new toy next thursday a 93 NA8.
Am new to mx5's however have long admired them, but could never afford them, well finally (and on my birthday) I get my new baby-I cant wait. Its blue with decent k's and i believe a larger air intake thingy (not sure of terminology!). Any way will post pics after I pick her up next week if anyone is interested. Cheers

thanks all for the kind welcome :D Im located in Melbourne (s/e suburbs). Tell me, do you all have names for your prides and joy?, anyway I will post some pics this week when I pick the mx up. Does anyone organize cruises and stuff like that from this site?
Have a question, the dealer has offered an extended warranty (manufacturers) at an additional cost of 995, would you recommend I take it up? Cheers

Hey mate,

I am also in melb, a few of us host a meet up in carlton every thursday night at a little place called the garage cafe, they re-open this week i think but dont think weekly meets will start till the following week. Come down for a coffee, a bite to eat or even just to talk crap with some great people  http://www.garagecafe.com.au

Cheers,

Welcome!

Forget the extended warranty, waste of $'s. Very worst case, if the engine happened to die, you could get a jap import replacement engine for less than that. These things are cheap and easy to maintain. Most of those dealer extended warranties have plenty of fine print to exclude all but the most major of items, or will only cover a certain % of the repair value.
Pain is temporary, quitting lasts forever.

Congrats and a happy birthday
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Hi all thanks very much for the birthday wishes, also for the info re extended warranty. Am just worried, what happened with my previous car (bmw 318i) I ended up having to put a new cyclinder head on it and then do the complete front end as it was f*****d, the queen mary would have dríven in a straighter line!!. My thinking is that 1) Mazda's are a hell of a lot cheaper to run and look after and if something were to go drastically wrong, 2)I wouldnt have to take out a second mortgage.
Thanks heaps for the advice re the warranty, it was what I was hoping someone else would re-confirm in my mind to be the case.
Cheers.
Im getting more and more excited about picking up my mx5, roll on thursday :D

forgot to mention, Im about 10 mins away from the mx5 centre in morrabbin, anybody had any dealings with them?. My car doesnt have the cover for the roof when its lowered, they have one for 200.00, is this too much?. For the time being once I get it, I will be just enjoying it, budget blown for the time being.

James at the mx5 centre is great, I've bought a few little parts off him and he is always friendly. I've seen the covers sell for $100 so $200 is maybe a little steep although one would assume negotiable. Just keep an eye on ebay, worht having as I believe it makes the car look much neater.

As for drives, in victoria we have a very active mx5 club, well worth joining. There is at least one drive a month, and many members also do track work. Have a look on the website at the driver training day at Winton on the 31st too 8)

As well as the thursday night meet we occasionally do thursday night drives, I usually go to the drives rather than the meets, but thats just me. I'm thinking a mornington peninsular run could be good in the near future on a thursday night, I'm going to rough out a route soon and see if there is any interest. Look forward to seeing you in the future and happy birthday.
