Our new 94 NA8 - mods weekend

Postby LDV60 » Tue Jan 06, 2009 7:20 pm

Hi guys.
I figured it was time to post a few pics now that I've started to play with the car a bit.
We picked up it up on the 23rd of December. It's a dead stock white NA8.
My wife has named it the sneaker, coz it's white, small and a bit sporty. Our other car is a black VE Clubsport. It's now been named the Army Boot, coz it's big, solid and a bit brutal by comparison.

Here are some pics from when we picked her up.

In the last couple of days I've done the following:

- touched up some paint, especially on the front bar.
- removed the mud flaps
- replaced the gear knob
- replaced the steering wheel (both were a bit worn)
- mounted and added a pod filter
- removed the interior door handles/arm rest things. (replaced with some leather straps)
- had some elite black tint put on the glass

Here are some pics of how she looks now:

Here is a pic showing our two cars side by side. The size difference is quite amazing.

We're looking at black rims next, just to give the car a bit more definition and contrast.

Really keen to do more, learn more and enjoy getting out and about in the little fun machine.

I second Amanda's comment about the name "Sneakers". I love it. Though I'm not so sure I believe you that it was your wife who named it.

She looks great, congratulations. I too just picked up my 94 NA8 last month (31st Dec) in Brisbane. It seems a few of us have been acquiring NAs. 8)

Are you interested on selling the front pair of mudflaps?

Thanks guys.
I'm real happy with it.
I knew that the sneaker was small, but didn't really realise just how small she is. When looking at the two cars side by side, she barely gets to the C pillar on the Clubsport.
There's some pretty ordinary hail damage on the bonnet, but nothing that we can't sort out easily enough.
Cheers

Haha, awesome looking car. I also have a white NA which gets parked next to my Dad's VE HSV on the driveway. It is really a sight to see them parked next to each other. As much fun as the brutal acceleration of the HSV can be nothing can beat the enjoyment you get from driving an mx5. The thing I've found is that the mx5 is fun even at normal speeds where you really have to do stupid things in the HSV to have fun in it.

Which may be why there seem to be more people driving like a bit of a spanner in an HSV than an MX5 8)

The bulbs are Narva H4 Arctic Blue, from Repco. Less than $50 for the pair. (also with the parkers light bulbs for the front in the kit.

Very happy with the upgrade, given they're same temp, same power load.

Front brake pads next week.

Do yourself a favour and grab a new set of headlights whilst your at it, it made a huge difference to my NA! 8)

Can get them from most car shops, 7" rounds but take one of yours in with you as there seems to be a few different mounting points on some of them. I found 2 different ones whilst doing my upgrade.

I'm looking at these parabolic type headlights for my NA. They cost AU$88 delivered from eBay (Aust).

Or these headlights with Halo parkers from eBay US for US$89.

I've seen those lenses.

Was wondering if they're worthwhile.

Quite like the look of such a nice reflective lense.

Any photos of what you did with the interior?

Not yet. Will see what I can do with that and post them up.
I'm pretty happy with the results.
I'm about 6'4" so leg space is a real premium. As such having the solid door handles is just too tight.
Also will be looking for a 300mm steering wheel I think, as opposed to the 350 that is on it at the moment.

So this is what the door skins look like now without the door handles.

I managed to "borrow" the straps from my wife's old handbag.

I don't think she wants them back now, for some reason.

(sorry for the pic, took it with the phone on the way to work this morning.)
