And now for something completely different. Cold air flows under the raised head light cover.

This site shows the importance of the intercooler in addition to cai.

CAI and Forced Induction ... waste of time?

An IC can only cool air so much. A CAI can't hinder and usually helps a fair bit. I'm a bit perplexed as to why it is referred to as a waste of time? The cooler the charge air the better and to imply that a IC can do as well as a CAI + IC combined is ludicrous.

Sorry to go slightly off topic, but does the mania and mx5 factory CAIs operate the same way? I know they do the same thing, but would their be different noises/power gains etc? Anyone have tried the MX5 factory version.

they are the same design / principal , but seeing as they use completely different materials (different piping, different filter etc) than obviously they will sound a bit different and probably perform a bit differently too. i guess the only way to know for sure would be to try them both back to back on the same car.

i have the mx5 factory version and i am happy with it, altho it was very expensive compared to the mania one.

Oh really, well if you dont mind could you tell me how much you payed. I was prepared to wait for mania, but they said upon opening they have to have them made up so i really didnt want to wait, but all up it would cost me 270 including postage.

I have a similar CAI set up to Tedsmx5 with a vented headlight cover and a boxed filter/intake.

I definitely had an increase in HP with the CAI fitted, unfortunately this isn't backed-up by any dyno figures but I had a definite increase in top speed at the track.

Wam-you should put a smoked perspex lid on top of your cold air box?
