may be front crank seal - they should be replaced when the timing belt is done every 100k kms along with the waterpump. how many kms has your NA8 done & has the timing belt been replaced?

Oil Leak

it's possible the front crank seal wasn't done when the timing belt was replaced. it's possible just to replace the belt without replacing the seal or the waterpump. however, given the amount of work involved in replacing the belt it's recommended seal & pump are also replaced.

oil filter is near the front but on the drivers side. is it engine oil? - do you have power steering?
