lol she has been doing it for 40 years. She has all the machinary, overlocker blah blah thats not the problem. Finding the right carpet is. I dont know if it would be cheaper to buy in bulk, or buy some large floor mats and cut them?

+1, you would save money, you could sell the old carpet and end up with a really cool industrial interior look, think how mad the blue neons you have would look shining off the metal

Whats the point of getting rid of the carpet and sound proofing material? Im not racing, and its my daily car. Im not going to ruin it by ripping everything out, and drive myself insanse because i cant hear a word my passengers say.

Makes it really easy to clean when you have filthy passengers too. Easier if there's no passenger seat and they just sit on bare metal.

Your not going to roowun the car, your going to improve its overall performace (both handeling and acceleration).
If you really must take passengers and you can't shut them up, they do make CF racing helmts with built in radios.
Don't worry dynomat is dirt cheap and you can put all the carpet back if you want to sell the MX5 for a beema.

I really hope you were joking when you said that. Watch yourself and dont go around calling the police the word used originally, because for whatever they do that doesnt please people, they are still laying their lives on the line everyday. Peoples family members may be police and i dont think they will be very happy with you calling them the word used originally. In my opinion, reducing the weight of the car to such an extent is only required for track use. For a daily drive, it will increase noise, ruin insulation and is largely pointless because they type of handling and acceleration improvement will be ruined by a big dinner and a night drive, or a heavier passenger (or two ). For god sakes you might have some clothes on the parcel shelf, or some crap in your glovebox, its just ridiculous. The car is beautiful how it is, and i dont wanna ruin that by ripping things out, just adding things tastefully. If you want to lighten your car thats up to you, but to a lot of other people it just doesnt benfit them.

I take that back no offence, I have a the deepest respect for police officers that lay their lives on the line every day.

LW not only improves straight line performance, it can reduce stopping distance, increase fuel economy, improve handeling, maybe even hlep you avoid future accidents.
It applies everytime you get behind the wheel, both on the track and on the road/streets, wet days round abouts, oily roads, skid pans you name it.
