Restoring steering wheel

Ive come to notice how bad my steering wheel actually is. The leather is wearing quite rapidly, and its become dull, and spotty and torn. I was wondering if there are any fixes other than replacing it. As in re trimming it etc. Can it be done, and who can do it. Or can you restore the leather with a chemical?

It can be recovered. Try looking at a few motor trimmers. There's a place in Qld thats supposed to do a good job and charge reasonable prices. Maybe some of the Qld guys know the place. Failing that there's Blackmans and Sons in Victoria but they were a bit pricey.

I was going to get mine recovered but found an almost new SE wheel instead so use that instead. I'd still like to eventually get the original Nardi wheel recovered because it feels a bit thicker than the SE wheel.

You can have it retrimmed in CF and perforated leather, the more holes it has the lighter it gets. They can also shrink it in both diameter and thickness; smaller size = LW.

For a little extra they can usually remove the airbag for you...

Personally I dont want too much leather covering the wheel, all the stiching will bring about the added weight of thread and they dont have CF thread which is a real deal breaker.

I want to organize a GB on CF/perforated leather stearing wheels with optional air bag removal? Any takers

It is a great wheel. I was thinking of asking my existing trimmer who will be doing my seats as soon as he opens the bloody shop, theres about a grand waiting for him in cash, and thats just discount price lucky me

but id rather source the job from someone who specialises in it as it seems a bit tricky. How much did your new wheel cost ya?

I might ring then during the weeks and see if they're open the following week. I can drop my old wheel off while I'm in Adelaide.

any trimmer worth their weight should be able to do a steering wheel if they work in leather.

yeah this guys good. Hes been doing showcars for 30 years. I dont know i just think that its a specialty if you know what i mean. I want it coming out looking original. 150 sounds good though.
