Hi all,

I am currently in the process of replacing all fluids and cheapish consumables on my 98 nb8a and have come to spark plugs and leads. I will probably go with some form of NGK spark plug but it is the leads that are doing my head in.

Mx5mania have Magnecor leads for $135-$175 (7, 8 or 8.5mm) which seem to be a popular choice however I have seen on miatamania.com they have 8mm Jackson Racing leads for US$45 or 8mm Cobalt leads for US$39.95. Are these leads just as good and what size best suits a weekend car/future very part time track car - I'm guessing 8mm is a good mid range option..

I'll be buying a few other things from miatamania shortly so postage isn't really a mega problem here either - I'm more concerned about quality. (And yes I have searched but I couldn't find exact answers to my questions)

im happy with mine but it must have been the early ones mine dont seal properly at the top. (NB8B)

I got mine for an NA6 from QLD Ignition Leads in Kallangur, got a choice of leads there I went with 8.5mm or 9mm. Paid about 150 (i think) a year and a bit ago, the guy makes them up for you on the spot.

Is that the magnecores wun?

Thanks for the info everyone - keep it coming. So anyone use the Jackson Racing or Cobalts?

i got some OBXR 10.5mm leads on mine, only cost me $70 too :) but that was before the dollar crashed.

Have you check out genuine Mazda leads.

Thats what I fitted when mine stuffed up (NA8) $60.00

I run Top Gun spiral wire 8.8mm leads on my NA6, have done for years now, never missed a beat. ever!

yeah they are magnacore ones blue I think 8mm, not 100% snug at the top I must have got an early batch have had them for about 2 years they work alright.

I'll check the Top Gun ones out to throw another brand into the mix :? They all seem to list the same features and materials so I'm starting to think it really doesn't matter what brand...

i got the same ones in the Familia. can't complain at all. even the normal TopGuns I had in the NA6.

sorry about the old thread, but are these the standard 8mm top guns or the MAX300's? did these come with the cup or do you need to reuse, I have priced a set up at $125 for the MAX300's but the way the guy was talking its just a lead, no cup to fit over the plug and seal the hole. Don't really want to reuse red cups with blue cables!

Well I finally bought a set of Jackson Racing leads and NGK spark plugs and tried to install today however I was only able to get one lead off as they are damn tight! When I reinstalled the one lead, I could get it off again quite easily so I'm assuming 10 years age manages to get them stuck on there quite well. Is there a particular method to remove them (ie maybe levering the bottom the the plug upwards) or is it purely brute force? Due to the tight area they are in I couldn't really think of much to do to help the situation...

Any ideas peoples?
