I thought relays tend to be generic, i.e. Mazda may use a Nippon Denso relay which, in turn, may be used in many other vehicles. After some Googling, it looks like Mazda use an Imasen LA12 (see photo below).
There's probably an equivalent, so you could either try Repco or one of the other autoparts stores, or a Mazda wrecker. I recently bought a used LA10 (the one next to the LA12 in the photo) from James for a reasonable price.
Of course, there's also MX5 Mania in Sydney (one of our Forum sponsors), MX5 Factory in Ringwood, & MX5 Parts Plus in Brisbane. The Mazda wreckers that I know of are in SE Melb, (Dandenong, Clayton & Carrum Downs), but I'm sure there are others around Melb.

Is the relay you want the one in the engine bay or the one under the steering column? If you're having problems with the lights not popping up when you turn them on then it's probably the one under the steering column.

Mr_Q, I believe the relay is an LA12 whether it's in the engine compartment or under the steering column. Its location seems to vary from model to model &/ or country to country. For example, when I checked the location of mine it wasn't in the engine compartment as per photo from the Internet which was from a US vehicle.

Fair enough. I replaced it on both my '91 and '93 Oz delivered NAs and it was under the steering column on both, so only speaking from personal experience. My current car doesn't seem to have a retractor relay for some strange reason ...
