well better some gremlin then you accidently drifting off the road into an embankment or tree with the weather (yay rain!).

the MAF is plugged in properly?

sounds like cam belt to me. no compression and cranking very easily are 2 sure signs

Sounds like what happened to my old NA....rainy night, car suddlently dies. Would crank (easily), had spark, had fuel but no compression

well only as far as what the servicing manual instructs. i can see it'll be a big nuisance of a job to do without the right tools & having to hold the alignment marks exact when the belt goes on.
