I believe 8B, 8C & SE are supported by OBDII. I had an 0BDII on the SE not too long ago during tunning.

Now to need to find that link when mazda flipped over to OBDII....

The U.S. NB8As DID ... apparently.

I've always wondered what would be required for us to add it. Is it just a loom we need to plug in? Would we need a US ECU?
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Thread hijack - sorry MXHEVN :)

My car broke down today again while using the test sensor from Mania - I was sitting at a set of lights and as I took off the car just died. It's done it before like this, last time I thought I'd stalled it myself - I did a stall test when I got to work and couldn't replicate the problem

I tried to swap the sensors over but the 10mm spanner they give you in the tool pack didn't provide enough leverage to get the bolt out so I couldn't swap them over

I just had to wait 10 mins or so until the car decided to restart

Next time I'll have the socket set with me so I can swap the sensor over quickly and see if that was the problem

isnt it shitty/cold weather all over sydney? my problem only occurs when its hot for some reason.

so were you using manias sensor and it stopped? if so then you wouldnt thing the cam angle sensor is the problem.

It wasn't that hot, but the sensor still gets hot regardless of the weather

The plan was to quickly swap the "test" sensor with my old one to see if the fault was still there after I swapped them over

The test sensor is a used one - so it might be faulty as well

fair enough, i would of left yours in then swapped the mania one, either way works though. Having two faulty CAS is a little unlucky though, thus i think it could be something else.

See Garry's post, 2nd from bottom, in following thread:

Brian Long's newish book Mazda MX-5 Miata supports Garry's advice in above thread ref intro of OBDII in US as MY'96, or '95 as we know it.

went on a journey to Andrew's (irwin83) house today to have a crack at finding the problem, considering he had a spare engine with working parts we figured we would give it a shot.

first up was the coil pack, swapped them over and went for a drive, same problem occured.

swapped over the AFM and the problem didnt occur but i didnt drive it a spirited as i did with the coil pack swap.

ended up swapping the cam angle sensor & and the crank angle sensor and went for a very long run, and volia! problem has been fixed, drove all the way home (100km's mind you) and didnt have a problem.

over the week i will narrow it down and swap my cam angle sensor to see if that is the problem, if not then its the crank sensor.

hope this helps everyone else having this problem.

That's good news - hoping that mine is the same problem

I haven't had an issue in the last few days - but I'm sure it will get me when I least expect it

I find it amusing that you want to be the fastest naturally aspirated 5 in Australia and you can't even get your standard engine running :P

I experienced the same thing in September this year, and it was the cam angle sensor as someone has already pointed out, that caused all the issues.

When the air temp is high and the engine bay gets really hot in start-stop traffic, the car will just stall on me.

Saw this thread, and followed the advised, got a replacement (2nd hand) cam angle sensor from MX5 Mania, and the car hasn't missed a beat since.
