I'd forgotten about this thread....

In the end, I bought a new starter at a pretty good price, but when I went to fit it, discovered that I was missing the bolt that holds the main power feed to the solenoid.

Nicked that from the new starter, and she's apples. I of course, was pretty damn embarrassed.

If anyone wants a starter without that bolt - cheap cheap cheap...

Went to directly to Supercharge at Willawong & bought a MF43 for $77.00

Don't think anyone will do better.

How did you guy fit yours? Would not fit battery tray so it is sitting on the floor.

You either bought the wrong size or the battery tray is not the original one and is too small.
I wouldn't leave it sitting on the body if I were you.

my supercharge (can't remember if it was an MF43) was a tight fit, but it fit nonetheless. i had to extend the battery clamp (i used a jumbo cable tie) due to the increased height, but that was the only mod required - it fits in the factory battery tray of my NA8.

Initially didn't bother and let it sit on the edge of the tray, then eventually trimmed the edge of the battery tray to suit. My OEM clamp fitted fine regardless.

My car never has a tray under the battery. Anyway a month ago, I fitted a Supergold MF43 in there easily. All I did was to move the clamp up a notch at the back. It was a tight fit but it fitted.

I went to see Louis @ Supercharge batteries in Roberna St, Moorabbin, VIC. $95 - 3 year warranty. he even installed for me. Nice bloke.

ah, battery issues, how I hate them.

I replaced the Mondeo battery the other day, Supercheap wanted $180 for an SCA brand one, unsure of warranty.

I went to the local shop (Marshall Batteries) as well as getting good service their battery came with a 2year roadside warranty, was installed then and there in about 15mins AND was cheaper at $140

What I don't understand with a lot of you guys (and gals) is that the OEM battery is a perfect fit, and they last for years and years. The battery in my SP is still the original one, after 7.5 years, and is still going strong, even though it has been completely flat a few times.
I've known the OEM battery to last over 10 years in many cars, yet a lot of you try to cheapskate and buy a battery that is the wrong type, or it doesn't fit quite right and may only last 2-4 years.

Sorry to say, but I think it is false economy.
If the aftermarket battery you buy is too big and eventually causes a dent in the rear gaurd, or it vents out and causes your boot floor to rust out or it lets you down not long after you bought it, why would you bother?

Personally, I'll stick to OEM battery for my SP, when it needs it.

I priced a Genuine battery from Mazda in May
Was quoted $319 as a walk in price (Max Kirwan Mazda in Preston)
For that money I'm guessing it's a Panasonic AGM
