Your bragging about doing the OPH at the current speed limit!! bwhahaha

I can almost walk faster than the new speed limit and have been passed by cyclists going downhill. It used to be fun when it had a 100/80kmh speed limit, not as much fun at 70kmh and a total waste of time at the current 60kmh. I was up there today and reminising about cruising through there in the olden days around 95 to 98kmh and not be pulled over for speeding.

I'm with STM though, the run from the bridge up to PITS is still one of my favourites and the speed limit is still 80kmh on that stretch so you can still have a little bit of fun without loosing your licence. Though I still need to keep a close eye on the speedo. It's very easy to get over the magic 109kmh on the short straights.

I think the problem is that it was too popular with car clubs. I remember when I first started driving up there the limits were 80-100km, and it was possible to do the almost the whole run at the speed limit. There are a few nasty decreasing radius corners on the northern half which you don't want to find out about the hard way :(

There was supposed to be a road-race event on the Brooklyn hill climb in December last year called Race To the Pie (play on Race To The Sky - Pikes Peak). Unfortunately it was cancelled.

In my experience the police in the area are mostly on rolling patrol rather than speed traps. I've seen a speed camera wagon deployed under the F3 bridge at the top of the climb from the Brooklyn bridge, headed north.

The Police use the full gauntlet of armoury available to them. I've seen mobile radar, mobile radar hidden in the bushes, mobile speed cameras, random breath testing, compulsary RTA vehicle inspections, marked and unmarked cars and bikes and hand held speed detection devices and on a really good day, several different types used on the same day. The road is patrolled day and night, though more frequently on the weekends or after a fatality.

Basically it's blitzed and a waste of time unless you like to ride your pushy up there. Which is a pity because it's an awesome piece of road and used to be one of my favourites. :(

Ahhh, the good old days - I used to frequent that road regularly around 15 years ago when the limit was mostly 100km/h. We knew it as a \"Brooklyn Run\"

Friends and I knew that road like the back of our hands... fun in Astina, MX-5, Integra, Pulsar SSS....

A section of the road from the river up to Mt.White was \"closed\" to traffic for a long time due to landslipage. Didn't stop some people, though!

It was when this part of the road was repaired that it was re-opened with 60km/h limits...

I live at far end of Sydney now so haven't been on the road for years.

Agreed.

...or you're running in a new Engine :)

There's always Mac Pass and the Royal National Park though. (Is the National listed yet? hmm)

I'm one of these \"Weeknight Hoons\", or better yet Im in the wrong place at the wrong time....I used to hoon on weeknights, but after going to the track, its just not worth it (coming off and sliding through the grass is better than hitting a rock face or armco). That and about a month ago someone from the group came a cropper, and nearly wrote his car off....its just not worth going at break neck speed through there

Went on an Old Pac run last night, for the first time on a weekend after being involved in an accident (which claimed my friends MR2 and an AE86) on section 2 around this time last yea

Was headed back south at around 12.50 am, and we passed 3 groups of Hondas. A few were pulled over by Brooklyn Bridge, we passed a group headed north about 2min later then a gap and then another group, my initial thoughts were "lol honda ricers", we continued up the hill, cautiously around corners as we were unsure if there were more of them. Came around the hard double left, just before the hairpin and first thing I noticed was an excel with hazards on.Next thing I noticed was the flipped white Integra which had planted itself into the shoulder ditch and rock wall. We pulled over, got out, spoke to an older couple in the excel, they said nooone was in the car when they came across it. They left shortly after. I called the police, double checked there was noone in the car. Placed a call to a friend who was 2min behind us, told him to pull over and talk to the honda boys at the bridge, let them know one of their own had messed up and was most probably injured. Our friend arrived at the scene shortly after, told us the honda boys said three girls had been driving the car and were now "pretty shaken up" and after the accident had gotten in the car with other people from one of the groups we passed. So off went our friend and soon there were a group on hondas that joined us, the claimed they didnt actually know the people in the car and didnt want to be around when the cops showed up. I had a bit of a yell at them about not calling an ambulance and how stupid it was of them to let people leave the site of an accident.
No surprises, they left soon after. After another 10 min of contemplation, the police showed up, looked over the car, spoke to us about what happened. The policeman had come from Hornsby and taken the freeway to Booklyn then dríven old pac southwards, he says that all the hondas had bailed and noone aside from us had stayed around. He took our details and we left, heading very cautiously up the hill back to Berowra.

I still have no idea how they managed it, apparently there were three asian girls in the car, but then again someone told us it was a guy and a girl (so take your pick). Best guess would be, too fast round the hairpin, putting them in the south bound lane, over correction bringing them back into the northbound lane while catching the ditch in the shoulder (at speed) flipping the car, then touching the rock wall which spun it on its roof and claimed the front bumper on initial impact. There were no tyre marks to indicate braking, front bumper was on the shoulder behind the car, most of the front end was mashed in and there was obvious marks to suggest the car had spun at least twice on its roof.

The owner of the car was a green P plater and I can only hope that she/he/they got to a hospital, as I doubt anyone could walk away completely unscathed from that.

The OPH is ok if you just want to shake your suspension or drive leisurely on a windy road.

Since the section North of Brooklyn speed limit was reduced to 60km/h for safety reasons, it no longer has the same thrill it used to.

Having said that, from time to time I still drive there as an alternative to the Freeway next to it - just to mix it up a bit.

I hit a wallaby on OPH last night, took my front bar half off. I'd be upset but my front bar already has damage
