Wheel nuts

Whilst doing a test fit of my track rims I ran into a problem - my wheel brace is too large if I want to use the SE's original wheel nuts. The nuts fit ok, its just the hole on the rim isnt big enough to fit the brace. Anyone know of a decent brand etc that are smaller than the standard nuts?

Fuzzlet, I have found a long breaking bar and a longreach socket do the job. I don't think you will get a thinner wall thickness than a good quality socket.

Same thing happened to me on a previous car, I pulled up to a Super Cheap grabbed a few braces, took them out and test fit them all 'till I found one that fit.

I use internal hex wheel nuts with a 12mm hex half inch drive socket (not the key that comes with the nuts). No chance of scratching the wheels this way

I file mine down so it could take a smaller socket...

Well after chatting with the previous owner of wheels he said he ran 17mm lightweight nuts, and apparently with a 19mm socket he could use standard nuts. The SE's are bigger than this, so looks like a second set of nuts are in order....will mean I can get some lightweight ones

As for scratching the wheels - not really a problem, since the (green...) paint is already chipping off, and I'm planning on sandblasting them when these tyres wear out

Well I have ordered some new (lightweight) wheel nuts. Should be here within a few days thankfully

Buddyclub lightweight nuts. Not cheap, not lighter than stock nuts (infact weigh almost double), however they do fit with these rims

Yea if these are the 'lightweight' nuts I'd hate to see the 'standard' ones then. Having said that these ones are around 50mm long, meaning they fit down the 20mm cutouts for the wheel nuts and I can fit a 17mm socket over them to do them up

I would be deeply cut thats very deceptive; like saying 'superlite wheels' that are 7 kg each.

There should be a law against such false claims in advertising.

I would consider any nut under 25 grams to be considered as 'lighweight'.

will lightweight nuts make ANY difference that is noticable?

the difference overall between a 33g nut and a 70g nut is 592g for the whole car, or 148g per wheel.

148g right in the centre on the wheel is likely to make ƒü¢k all difference!


you can save about the same amount of weight by skipping lunch!
