Yes, but just from initial looks there are a few things he could remove to save more weight, such as side reflectors, mazda logo, lip spoiler, one wiper arm etc :P

Boyracer D2-R....the SE replica...with build write up...

Here goes the build write up...

Chapter 1...Boost is addictive...

So we had sold the Montego Blue NA8 race car...it was a great car but just did not have the grunt.I owned this with Robo (new member on the forum) Robo is my usual 1 hour partner...he has a lot of racing experience,Class winner at Bathurst 12 hour,Nurburgring 24 Hour...the sort of driver you want in your car...

I do my usual check of the auction sites and this little beauty turns up...looks like a SE to me.

Image

Sure it's got a scratch or 2...my panel beating eye told me straight away that they would surely buff out(well maybe not)... I send an email to Robo..."how about we buy this and a NB shell and make a new race car"...sounds like a good plan to Robo so with a lot of help from Chris at MX5 racing we secure the rolled SE and a pretty straight and well stripped out red NB8A shell.

Image

We get both of the cars in my garage...sitting side by side and formulate a plan to turn the red shell in to a SE replica.

Buying cars from the auctions is a real lottery, they are always sold as is,you can only have a good look and hope that the good bits are all OK....this car had a big crash so who knows...but it's was worth the gamble...when I looked at it the top of the engine had hit the ground...slight crack in the cam cover and the CAS was broken off...this is actually a good sign because the engine would have shut off when the CAS broke...potentially saving any damage...

We decide it's a good idea to get it running before we strip tthe SE out...so I put the big spanner on the front of the engine and try to turn it over...no luck...turns a bit then stops,so it's no siezed...probably full of oil from sitting upside down...so remove spark plugs and turn engine, point for anyone doing this...don't put you body parts anywhere near the space above the spark plug holes...I turned the engine about 5mm and the oil shot me straight in the forehead.

After Robo wiped the oil from my head we got back to getting the car running...so we sucked out what we could then turn over the engine and most of the oil was out...now we can connect the battery and put in some new plugs, new CAS...turn the key and off she goes...not a bad noise in site...mainly because it was pouring out a huge smoke screen, after it ran for a while and the smoke subsided we were happy to start stripping it out ready to swap bits to the new shell...
