Basically you are holding the clutch partially engaged while you accelerate. This keeps the revs up higher than they otherwise would be through riding or slipping the clutch.

Hooray, got the car back this morning! The new clutch is great, and a clutch bearing was replaced. Its light like my old clutch, no shudder and no squeaking. It turns out my old clutch was on its way out. The flywheel was also machined. The rattle at 3500 RPM was the heat shield being loose somewhere, either way its fixed also. Gearbox oil was changed, and he also replaced my rear main seal which was leaking a bit and an O ring. All up cost was 800 from a previously quoted 575.
