Small rattle / violent vibrations (2 seperate problems)

Garry wrote:The "cricket" sound could be coming from a dry joint where the rod from clutch slave cylinder pushes against the clutch throw out arm. Classic symptoms are a chirping type noise that goes away with very light pressure on the clutch pedal. 5 minute fix:- get under the car, push the the rod from the slave cylinder back into the cylinder a little bit, apply grease to the now exposed rod/throw out arm joint, pump clutch, start engine, enjoy the peace and quiet of your handy work.

Much cheaper and easier than replacing the clutch.

If that doesn't fix your problem then you'll need to delve deeper into the clutch mechanism, but I'd try that first.

I get the noise whilst accelerating with the clutch engaged only. Not when its rolling, not when its reving in neutral. Do you think its the clutch bearing?

No idea. If the clutch rod joint is dry you can usually hear the cricket sound with the clutch out and the car not moving. Very light pressure on the clutch pedal will make it stop. But you could hear it on my NA8 when driving close to a concrete jersey barrier with the roof down. It sounds like your problem could be a bit more sinister. :frown:

well i tried lithium greasing my clutch slave cylinder thingy, took a while for me to locate it haha but no luck there. Its getting installed as we speak, and its not a Mazda OEM clutch, its actually an Exedy clutch. Yay for me I guess haha

Oh well, pity it didn't work. It was worth a try, it may have saved you some $$

Some of the problem that leads to clutch shudder is that the clutch face becomes a bit glazed.

Try doing a hard start while slipping the clutch, and that should grind a little of the glazing off the surface and hopefully it won't shudder for a while or at least it won't shudder as badly.

Repeat as neccessary, and call me in the morning.

Slipping clutch also means feathering the clutch.

& "riding the clutch", an easy way to burn some crap off the clutch plate as Benny said..............use 2nd gear & really pile some revs on from a standing start & ride the clutch hard........should strip any glazing off.

So by riding the clutch you mean positioning the clutch so it is kind of half engaged hald disengaged?

that's why I said to use 2nd gear from a standing start, saves having to explain it, you'll know what we mean when you try it :)
