They're excellent seats, comfortable, supportive and look great.

you always have the seat you are using as a reference, an upholsterer can always bolster it to you specifications. you can sit in it and try it before it is covered and make more alterations if nessesary. remember leather can be slippery and add to you sliding around. this may not be the cheapest solution but it means you don't make a compromise.

those mazdaspeed seats would be about $2k landed.. probably a bit more, according to rupewrecht's site on shipping:

"Shipping costs/fees rise with the selling price of the item, but a generally double the item cost - except for small items (where costs will be higher) or large items like panels/a set of wheels (which will be under the 'double' figure).

Costs involved in buying an item:

• the purchase price
• agents commission - 15% or AUD$10, whichever is greater
• my commission - 10% or AUD$10, whichever is greater
• postage to the agent in japan,
• freight to Australia via container (or EMS which costs extra but will get stuff here quicker)
• import duty,
• GST
• postage to you"

Yeah thanks sliq, I wasn't too sure about them at the start, but think a 90's seat in a 90's car works.

Fortunately for me (but unfortunate for my wallet) Rupewretched is a friend of mine. So he sourced them for me. While he does his best to give me (and others) best price he can , as a mate, I'd prefer to see his business succeed than screw him on price. Luckily they were here before the $$ shat itself.
All that is a long winded way of saying they weren't much cheaper than what they were on ebay for. But, he did come to my work (on a Saturday) to deliver and install them. Where do you get service like that these days?!?!

A cold beer on a hot day is always good bribery

I bought my first set of these about 2 years ago as they came with the brackets for my Astina. I never intended to kepp them, but they're just such a comfortable and supportive seat, while not being too tight that it restricts your movement. And i don't get a sore back anymore on long drives as i used to.

The whites work better in darker cars, i find. I put the pair that Daz bought in my car for a few days but they just didn't work as well with my interior/exterior color.

it's better to pick up them up as a pair, as there's only one lot of shipping/fees etc associated with them. You [i]can[/] pick up singles for as little as $450 at the moment, but generally are a little rough - usually with a tear on the right rear upper bolster from all you damned MX5 drivers and your rollbars  Usually they're closer to $700-800 per single seat for a good clean example, though

thanks for that zzoome. i've checked with the seller, they're not in stock

however, he recommended the cobra vintage/classic seat, it looks just about the same, $650 per seat.

what is with these seats not being reclinable?!

I've got the Cobra Classics for my Beetle, and they are very comfortable, but are pretty tight.

You're better off importing them yourself though - i got a pair for AUD$800 landed here from the UK a while back (which was cheaper than Revolution Racegear at the time), and even with the fubar dollar it should work out better.

They're fairly popular for MX5s in japan it seems, too.

why do u need a reclinable seat?

Yeah, Revolution racegear have those seats, they are the same style as Nakamae seats which are common in Japan.

i need reclinable because i've got a bad hunch already.. i don't think a fixed back seat will help, if not, it'll make it worse. and i like to adjust the back when umm.. i'm involved in extra curricular work in the mx5 lol

whereabouts in the UK did you source them from? i thought shipping was a killer with these huge seats.. or maybe you imported them with one of your contacts? :|

http://www.demon-tweeks.com/ They're about the only place that will export them, as RR have an exclusive deal for Australia. Shipping was slightly more expensive than the seats. Demon Tweeks can also source extra material, and will get other color combs than what's listed on their website.
