Dodgy "hey thats not too bad" $5 or free DIY debadge job
This is my first post. Here goes.
Ok i know this has been visited a few times, but for those out there with a crap/not too bad type paint job who are in need of a simple 'dummies guide to debadging', here it is!
Ok you will need
` Hairdryer
` Fishing line
` Finger Nails
` Plain nailpolish (works if you have a black car, not sure about other colours)
` Liquied Gap filler
` CRC or WD40
` Wax
` Maybe a cloth or tooth pick or earcleaner for gap filling
` Lowest grade sand paper to touch up sand holes.
` PATIENCE
Instructions.
1. First you need to use the hairdyer to soften glue, duh!
2. Whilst you are hairdrying, use fishing wire or your nails to gently pry off the adhesive. You may want to use a cloth covere screwdriver to pop off any tabs, it really depends on what you got lying around and how you want to do it. For me it was a matter of using fishing line on some, nails on the other, a little popping there, a little oh sh*t i shouldnt have done that there. But if your car has a bit of wear on the paint you shouldnt be worried. And if your paint is brand new i dont know what your doing trying to debadge it yourself.
3. After you have removed the badges, spray WD40 or CRC on the left over adhesive and try to rub it off with your fingers/nails etc, again this is a dodgy diy job so dont expect any proffessional type theory.
4. Ensure you have a clean surface, and get ready for the fun bit! Grab some gap filler thats sitting in the garage and use little blobs to fill the holes, apply it however you want, i used my fingers, your bound to get a bit on the paint, dont worry as that will come off later. After it drys, make another application.
5. Once it has all dryed, use your fine sandpaper which has been soaked, to super gently sand back the little hole area, try not to even touch the paint! after this has been done, make sure you clean the excess glue, adhesive off and allow to dry.
6. Now use your touch up paint, or for those with black mx5's black satin nailpolish works wonders. Take a second to go around and find some little chips which came about when that idiot opened his door into your car and gently dab it on the offending spots, releiving your frustration at the same time. After basking in your own self satisfaction, resume touching up the puttied holes and allow to dry.
7. When your done, it might be a good idea to thoroughly wax the areas. Im not up to this point yet, but i thought it finish the tutorial anyway.
Forgive any errors/contradictions i make as i hate proof reading.
I hope you find this helpful, leave your feedback, suggestions, expiriences, and just remember that this isnt designed for your brand new type cars. This is designed for older cars with paint jobs that have seen better days. Thus the dodgy DIY job. If you do decide to use this tutorial just be careful and do everything at your own risk, this is merely a guide.
Thanks, crzymx.

You've come up with a decent dodgy mod there, I dare say
a few of the other blokes will give this a go. I reckon I'd be
keen to try plugging my badge holes if I wasn't putting them
on again. My only question is are you using the silicon stuff,
bastard of a thing to try and sand down I'd have thought?

Well yeah it is a bitch to get off, comes off with a bit of crc and scratching with your fingern nails, maybe if someone could think of a dry filler alternatice, but something that is still hard would be good.
By the way. MAKE SURE you use fine sandpaper, i thought i had the finest, little did i know it was the ruffest. That will buff out, that will buff out. It didnt..

Yeah, the finest, and thats only if you find you cant get off the filler. Theoretically, if you can find a way to putty the holes with no mess, and evenly, you should not even need the sandpaper. Goodluck!
