JRSC belt alignment for NA. HELP!

Postby roadster90 » Mon Nov 03, 2008 1:00 pm

Can anyone help me with my alignment problems with a Jackson Racing supercharger with P/S and A/C?
The kit was relatively straight forward to fit considering it's designed for LHD. The only problem I have now is the belt is a 4 rib and is jumping off 1 rib towards the windscreen. I've tried sliding the supercharger foward and backwards without much luck.
Has anyone else out there had similar dramas?

Any help would be greatly appreicated.

So close, yet so far. :frown:

How many ribs is the standard a/c p/s belt? 3 or 4 (I thought it was 3)...

Because if the 4 rib is too wide for the a/c p/s pulleys i would suspect it may jump off.

Also, check both your supercharger and the p/s pump to make sure the pulleys are vertical with each other. My p/s pump was a little off vertical and I had really bad belt noises until i fixed it.
Huh?

The standard belt is 4. I just went and double checked which matchs all the pulleys.

How did you check the square between the 2 pulleys?

I looked down and saw the belt wasn't quite straight.
My p/s pump bracket was loose.
Huh?

Which tensioner arrangement do you have? They now sell a very different (and expensive) version, probably to fix the issues of the original. You can buy the new arrangement separately.

Hi Mokesta,
I actually bought the track dog racing belt tensioner which is apparently better and and made of alloy/metal components rather than plastic.

This was raised on the SOT forum <http://www.sotforum.com/forums/index.php>

Problem is they seem to have discontinued the forum, but the old threads appear to be accessable from the bottom of this page:

Or via search at:

From memory the suggested fixes for a jumping belt were either alignment &/or tension related, but some also suggested swapping to the ridged tensioner pullies.

I used the Track dog tensioner on my original install and had no problems at all. After replacing the nose bearings (as you do when you change the oil, the unit was second-hand and used GM supercharger oil), I placed a high tensile washer on the nose side of the pulley to improve the clamp area on the pulley, so the supercharger had to move back 2.5mm or so to realign the belt, (yes the pulley came loose, ) it’s now installed with loctite bearing and gear retaining compound  . Seems ok so far only dríven 300k so far.
So I can recommend the Track dog tensioner.
Why didn't I buy one years ago?
NA8 Ceramic coated headers, Hi flow cat, 2.5”system, M45 SC 150/62.5 8psi, Dual TB, IC & Adaptronic ECU.
