I am as much of an arsehole in real life as I am on the internet.
Just ask the people that know me on here.
I also wouldn't hesitate in saying anything I have typed on this forum to someones face.

Whoa this got out of control didn't it?
The kid clipped a gutter, I posted the insurance comment as food for thought, not an invitation to bash him with (I rarely post too).

Imagine that kerb was actually a run of the mill c55 Merc (let's say 05 model as they're pretty common now). You think $380 would have covered his damage?

I still know a guy I went to school with, he smashed uninsured when he was on his P's into a house. He's fine except for the $100K debt he's still paying off. He's now 33

I've lost 3 friends due to car crashes too :(

IMO ugly wheels with good tyres and insurance beats looks anyday.

Can you still insure cars under your parents name and have the ridiculous excess for under 25s?

I didn't insult you here. I would have said this to your face. I apologise if you feel victimised by the comments I've made.

I usually put out fires with water (or coke when water isn't available) not with petrol
Huh?

Only had third party back then, it was all I could afford.

yakob wrote:You sound like my mum. It really doesnt seem like a priority, my priorities are obviously screwed because wheels seems sooo much more important.

I'm pretty sure this caused it... It was followed by some well intended posts stating that Yakob really should get insurance instead of buying wheel. Some where a bit blunt and were responded to equally bluntly... Then the discussion turned abusive... Some oil was added to the equation and hey presto, a fire ball!

Relax I dont pass judgement Im a uni student with an MX5 I dont have deep pockets, but I share your passion. I have some sugestions for you.

Pawn the sub and speakers for third party insurance, less weight car handels better.
So you lost controll of one the best handeling sports cars ever made?
It doesnt handle well enough for you? Focus on handeling mods suspension, bushes, swaybars, alignment instead of doing CAI and twin exhaust, neons, and slipery pedal covers.
The stock 15" rims are actually quite lite and hard to beat dont upgrade to heavier 16" rims. Save the coin for more sticky performance rubber.
Did you know 15" rubber is heaps cheaper than 16" rubber?
Save money and do the maintnece yourself its actually quite easy, the people on this forum are acutually quite nice and in the past they have helped me with many of my mods, problems, maintnece, driving technique etc.
Every chance you have take it for a drive, MX5 is a great platform to learn to become a better driver.
Your only 18 your atitude will change as you grow older.
every ounce counts

settle, grettle!

yakob, you have to stop being so defensive about things. just shrug them off or cop it sweet. and we don't appreciate you swearing belligerently.

if you do intend on swearing, simply replace the swear word with "flower" or something.

e.g. why don't you go flower yourself.

you are such a flower.

Yakob,

For someone who's gone off at others on this forum for making assumptions about you and your situation, this is a bit rich. I think you should meet some of the members first before assuming they wouldn't say what they think to your face.

yakob wrote:Human nature.

If i told you i had an accident and ididnt have insurance in a calm tone.

Would you go off at me? call me a hottie, and a shitty driver and insist i think im better than everyone else?

And dont you dare say yo uwould because if your that insenstive and arrogant you wouldnt have made it this far alive.

You'd certainly get told that not having at least third party property insurance is a really stupid and selfish idea. If you said that you had the accident because you had really bad tyres on the front of the car and changed gear while going around a roundabout then you'd get told that a) sh*t tyres on the front is bloody stupid if you have fine ones on the back (though I'm not entirely sure if this is the case, you may have equally crappy tyres all round, in which case it couldnt have been avoided by swapping the wheels front to back) and that b) you should get your braking and gear-changes done before the corner.

I'll skip the issue of whether it was wet or oily because you've since stated that you drive to the conditions, and if there was some oil on the roundabout then you wouldnt have known about it until you were staring at the gutter

Mainly though, I think you probably would get rather blunt responses from people in person because I've a sneaking suspicion that you'd possibly not come across as being as calm and polite as you think you do. The LED dash kit and your garage thread are the only ones you've posted in without taking things out of context, calling people names and generally being a teenager. Capish

I can't believe this is still continuing. It is pretty obvious this wouldn't be resolved. It seems yakob is just trolling this thread now as well.

My suggestion, leave this thread alone and go on to bigger better things.

First of all I am glad you are ok and that the accident damage wasn't too bad. Several of the people here that you claim wouldn't "say it to your face" would. I know quite a few of them and in this world some people can be quite blunt. As you get older you appreciate people telling you like it is. I myself would tell you that driving without insurance = dumb, driving with crappy tyres = dumb, and driving with these problems and not slowing down more = dumb. You are not the first p-plater to be told these things and you wont be the last. I myself committed several stupid acts when I was younger and the consequence of them when I told others was to be told I was dumb. And I was!!!

There are many people here who are probably being more abrupt than neccessary just because of the fact they don't want to see you make some of the mistakes that they have seen or experienced. You can't expect to be able to post up on a forum and like what everyone says especially someone as vocal as yourself. You have made something like 160 posts in 7 days and alot of your posts have been poorly researched including your bold statement about how my licence plate sits. It's my car, I made the thing so I would know. Maybe you should just take a back burner for a bit, calm down and read instead of posting sooo much. You will find that the majority of people on here are good people (there's always exceptions), and they will go out of their way to help if they can.

Come out to a meet and get to know some of these people. You will probably still get told things you wont like but that's part of growing old and they don't want an act of impulsiveness to affect you for the rest of your life
