Cause I am sure experience has nothing to do with laptimes Matty

In 99.9% of cases the slowest part of any car on the racetrack is the driver. Work on your driving and get out there and do as many events as possible. Most of the quick guys in the MX5 Vic club have been racing for years and I don't think any of them set lap records in their first year.

that's my whole point.

i find horsepower works too. lightness is best though as far as mechanical improvements go. But if you have a stig behind the wheel he will probably win hands down.

18 kg savings in unsprung weight is a lot man what were your old wheels three piece dino-licious tractor rims held together with 150 bolts dipped in extra chrome and super rice dish with agressive offset? Do you feel and like the difference in performance?

My first time at winton is 2:03.5481 (semi skim; started weight reduction ideas but not fully developed yet, eg seats, toe hooks, glove box etc still in the car, just the HU and speakers, are out)

Seccond time at winton best time is 1:58.6100 (skinny; wheel nuts have been shaved down to take one size smaller socket, no pasenger seat 1/2 tank petrol, coilovers have been installed, car has been corner weighted and aligned to spec, stainless lines installed). Coilovers are 1.5 kg lighter than stock shocks I consider it technicaly as unsprung weight savings :)

Same conditions (35 deg day) same driver (65kg) less weight = 5 seccond difference!

Third time going to winton is this melbourne cup day, I have something planned...

hahahahahha nah, NB upgrade wheels.. 9.5kg each - weighed em with tyres, 19kg.. meanwhile starcorps with tyres are just 14.5kg

definately feel performance difference, but hard to say how much is down to the weight saving as the tyres i have before were really bad, all cheap and mismatched (count em, 3 different tread patterns)

Wun,

I reckon most of that time will be because you have got more experience driving on the track and more experience at that particular track. Who is running the cup day event?

fixed.

You've got another 10 seconds to knock off before weight savings will start making any difference.

Dear Wun,

My car has always been clean so I saved no weight at all by vacuming it but I did however add a turbo a while ago and now I can kick your ass.

i've found that the style of underwear you prefer can have an effect on lap times.

i think it's fairly self explanatory which set of undies will result in faster lap times... all that extra cotton in the first pic would seriously compromise your power to weight ratio imho.

Looks like a bit of waxing has gone on in those pics. There must be a weight saving in all the pubic hair, and no I'm not going to help you with that mod Wun.

I do find that after a nice wash and wax my car seems to have better performance, then again maybe it's all in my head, does it really matter, I still find it more enjoyable driving a clean car which is good enought for me.
Wun likes reducing the weight of his car and he feels it makes his car faster, it doesn't matter if it actually does or not, he can feel a difference and that's all that matters.
All the mods I have done probably haven't made me any faster but I enjoy driving it the more mods I have so it's worth it.
All the money I have spent on my camera gear probably hasn't made me any better at taking pictures but I have fun learning how to use it all and seeing the resulting pictures so it's worth it.

I guess you can all see where I am going here, who cares if it does or doesn't reduce lap times, Wun's having fun.

But of course it really is improving his lap times

Experience is everything at any track. The more you go, the lower the times.
