 That's a bit rough.
I ran my number plate in the same position yakob did for a long time without any overheating issues. The only reason I changed is because I liked the look of the offset number plate bracket from MX5plus. I've still got my old drilled out bracket for mouth mounting should I want to go back.

I can't vouch for overheating when on the track, but for every day driving, you won't have any issues so long as you aren't redlining every gear shift.

Aye agree... this has been discussed a few times already grump!
Some people have trouble with that kind of mount for their plate... some don't...
moral of the story yakob... keep your eye on the temp gauge on the hotter days... then we'll see whether or not you have a problem...

Ooh... I thought so... but couldn't find any pics to confirm on the inter-ma-webs... the opening is too black...
If that's the case it's really easy to knock up a mock up of a side mount plate!
you don't have to spend $70 for a Cusco one or something.... mine was a recycled high school project...
Sure it's abit wobbly... but it might help dodge the speed camera on the one unlucky day I might have...

Bensale's suggestion about the slimline plate is a good one as the plate is a lot smaller and you would get much more airflow around the smaller plate when mounted in the "mouth".

unfortunately in qld you need to get personalized plates to get slimlines now as they don't do it in the standard plates :(

Yikes, its not a full moon is it?

I think what people are saying is that there is the potential that you could have some overheating issues with the plate in the intake. On the hotter days just keep an eye on the temperatures. If you ever go on the track just take it off. Perhaps a slimline plate could reduce the risk of overheating while also producing a more visually appealing solution.

All sound advice IMO, mostly intended to help you.

What are you smoking?

You asked how to mount the plate in the mouth. I showed you. I also advised you to make sure you've cleaned out your radiator before you do it, just to be sure.

You wanted to know how to do a side mount. I showed you, though I think I put that up before you asked.

You wanted to know how to fill the holes. I told you. I also advised you against doing the touch-up method on you car since its a dark colour and would stand a good chance of looking really bad. Feel free to do it, but if the badge mounts on the panel between the lights like on a NA it would cost sfa to get painted properly, and you've shown with your plate mount that you can work with your hands, so the prep work should be easy.

I still fail to see how Tony Miata could possibly be interpreted as funny though, just as I still think you already have the pick of all stock MX5 wheels

I didn't insult you, I said that the only way I could see myself finding it funny was if I had a lobotomy. I didnt say that you must be a bit dim because you liked it.

Sheesh... talk about flame war.

Personally, I haven't interpreted any comments by anyone (thus far) as snide/undercutting/rude/insubordinate or anything else you can think of.

Yakob, perhaps you just read a post the wrong way? Perhaps re-read what you thought was the offending post with a cool head and see whether it's still insulting to you. I'm reading the tony miata thread as well and haven't seen anything that resembles an attack on anyone here on the forums.

Remember that this is the internet. Sarcasm is the most common thing lost on here, so keep it in mind when you're making posts. Not everyone thinks along the same lines as everyone else, so a lot of things get lost in the buffer zone.

I have seen sticker as a number plate less weight. Not sure if you will get a fine or a yello sticker for having one tho???

OEM pate holds my grill in place to remove grill + plate when I get to the track takes too long.

Anyone make them out of CF, with quick release for easy removal?
