hmm... I may have to look into that. I never thought of that, although I think you could do something reasonably quite easily to obscure one letter from an angle yet remain visable from straight behind.

Be careful with this one though...!
In NSW at least the plate has to be visible from 45degrees left and right of the front
and a certain number of degrees from above and below

Someone made a very good pic of this back when there was discussion about offset plates... but hopefully you get my drift...

Fine point, that is the law, and I guess the easiest was not to get photgraphed is to stay within the speed limit...

Hey,

Has anyone here got an NB8C or SE and tried a side mount for their front plate? Or does anyone have some photos or links?

I'm sick and tired of getting the front bar hole-punched by the standard plate bracket thanks to the scum of society who touch-park and then flee without leaving details. I was thinking the side mount would look cool, like Evo cool, so I'm keen to see how it looks.

I dont know man, EVO's look good look that because they have a square type front end, 5's are really curvy and round, dount it would look it.

yakob, I hope we arent going to get a post from you about overheating. with that bloody great wind block on the front of your car I don't think your'e that much of a genius.

:shock: That's a bit rough.
I ran my number plate in the same position yakob did for a long time without any overheating issues. The only reason I changed is because I liked the look of the offset number plate bracket from MX5plus. I've still got my old drilled out bracket for mouth mounting should I want to go back.

I can't vouch for overheating when on the track, but for every day driving, you won't have any issues so long as you aren't redlining every gear shift.

Aye agree... this has been discussed a few times already grump!
Some people have trouble with that kind of mount for their plate... some don't...
moral of the story yakob... keep your eye on the temp gauge on the hotter days... then we'll see whether or not you have a problem... :lol:

Ooh... I thought so... but couldn't find any pics to confirm on the inter-ma-webs... the opening is too black...
If that's the case it's really easy to knock up a mock up of a side mount plate!
you don't have to spend $70 for a Cusco one or something.... mine was a recycled high school project... :mrgreen:
Sure it's abit wobbly... but it might help dodge the speed camera on the one unlucky day I might have...

Bensale's suggestion about the slimline plate is a good one as the plate is a lot smaller and you would get much more airflow around the smaller plate when mounted in the "mouth".

unfortunately in qld you need to get personalized plates to get slimlines now as they don't do it in the standard plates :(

I am really quite stunned at the tendancy people have to insult others in an open forum.

And as for overheating, honestly, learn a thing or too about realistic airflow, then give your two cents. In day to day driving there is no problem, there is still ample amount of space for air to flow through into the radiator which doesnt need that much cooling because it is DAY TO DAY DRIVING. Meaning slow takeoffs, slow cornering, slow straight lining. Seriously humble yourself and take the arrogance down a notch.
