There is a plate in the passenger's footwell against the firewall. I cannot find it in my manual but is it a carry over from early models or does it still have a function? Some cars have the ecu there I believe; does the SE, I heard otherwise on the Mazdaspeed forum? :|

Yes, it is a carry over of the normal plate that covers the ECU.

Yes, the SE ECU is there. Mazdaspeed forum would be the Yanks talking about their LHD cars so I am not sure what the go is for them.

Yep - I have had that plate off.
The ECU is hiding there.

Thanks for the replies ............. b*gg*r! It's a good job my wife is 5' 2" and I cannot remember the last time I had to ride shot-gun. I'm only 5' 10" but a long journey would not be good. I never understood why my son found that side uncomfortable. Still, he rides about in his Ford Landau so what do you expect!

Yeah I have noticed that too, plenty of space on the drivers side, even with the pedals but feel cramped on the passenger side! I'm 6'1" and have the drivers seat pushed all the way back.
