Wilwood Big Brake Kit - Mania

I haven't personally used this ket, but it is teh same kit that is extremely popular in the US.

I never found the stock braking system to be a problem in my MX5 though, even with 4 times stock power, good rotors and pads mad it pull up just fine.

from what I have heard it is overkill even for the fast race cars. if its for bling go for it but you do not need it even for the track.

If I was you I would get some nice slotted rotors (you just got pads didn't you)

I think the wilwood kit is pretty overkill.

What rotors are people using? DBA4000? Project Mu? RDA?

I remember when I had Lucas brake pads, DBA slotted & drilled Gold series brake rotors (for the NA6) and new brake fluid.
After 3 'hot laps', there was smoke pouring out from the front brakes and everything was going spongy
Think Okibi has a video or pics somewhere...

I had already tried Pagids and a few other highly recommended pads but I soon realised I was going over the thermal capacity of the braking system as the car was going so much faster and was braking much harder (this of course is my interpretation for having to literally stand on the brakes to shave off speed).

So I decided to go for the Wilwood kit from Goodwin.
Brian got it to me within 2 weeks


No complaints since on the braking department

The calipers, rotors and Alumalite centre hats are particularly light. Rear rotors are bigger albeit with the standard caliper (spacer bracket provided) & Porterfield pads all around.

I highly recommend it if you are really pushing some big horsepower (errm say 200 rwkw??? I do not know what is the definition these days ) and you have reached the limit of your brakes (after using the best pads, rotors & brake fluids). Otherwise, if you have never experienced brake fade, spongy brakes or smoke/fire after continuous hard braking then it probably is not necessary.

However, if it is for 'bling' (as 16bit mentioned) then at least the Goodwin/Wilwood BBK will fit under most 16"x7" wheels. There are other 'bling' brakes out there (i.e. Brembo, Alcons by Trust, Project Mu, Endless do a 6 small piston caliper ) for more money but they are usually fronts only and will require much larger wheels (17" & above) and playing with offsets to clear the brake caliper to wheel spoke issue.

Im considering getting this kit, but not till our dollar recovers a bit (I'm kicking my self..I was umming over it, then the dollar plunged..). The brakes on my SE have got nothing on my NA. Na was running bendex pads on DBA rotors, SE does admittidly have OEM pads in it (for now). But I figured if I'm gonna do pads and rotors, I mayaswel shell out a bit extra for something more blingy haha

for ultimate bling with no budget limits i would get the tarox kit. farkin sweet. 6 or slight overkill 10 piston callipers!!!!!

I like this because it says its super lite 6 piston caliper but it dont give the specs on the actual weight. Pitty you cant fit smaller lighter 15 or 14" rims over the larger 12" rotors.
