Bridgestone Adrenalin RE001 vs PP2 vs rest?

Postby NMX516 » Sat Oct 18, 2008 2:35 pm

Well, I stopped in where I bought the RE001's this morning, and the owner there was very interested in the problem. He sells a lot of them, and is concerned that they are going to be doing this... I told him I'd done a couple of track days on them, what pressures I was running, how they compared to the PP2's etc. He took plenty of photos of them and is going to contact his Bridgestone rep to see what response he gets. One thing we noticed though is that mine were made in Australia, and he had thought they were all made in Japan... All the ones he had in stock there today were made in Japan. I may have bought a set which was made on a Friday afternoon!!

Interesting, my PP2's have chunks off in a few places and have only done 3 track days (2 drivers though each time) and about 4000km(most of that to and from Natmeet this year).

Over all though, it's a big thumbs up from me for the PP2's 8)

Today, I turned into a wide radius, left-hand corner without braking, at approx 50km/h. Noticed that the concrete median-strip was a wee-bit closer than what I thought it was, turned the steering wheel harder to the left, a fair bit of debris on the road .... RE001 gripped and gripped. 8)

That would probably explain the difference, I had to recheck last night to make sure where my tyres were made.

I didn't realise that they where making RE001 in Aust.

I thought the only tyre factory in Australia was the old Dunlop/Olympic one in Melbourne which made B-grade tyres under various brands for years until they closed this year?

That doesn't look good at all. The missing 'chunks' look too consistent to be Driver damaged (only my opinion).

Here's hoping they come to the party and cough up a new set. You might well be blown away by the Japanese made tyres (really, they couldn't be any worse).

There are a couple of early-wear, tell-tales on them Tien.
Check out either the photos I posted on my thread or the Bridgestone website where I got them from and you can see what I mean.

I just checked mine and they are all made in Japan. and they have all maintained structural integrity.

One of the bosses at my previous work used to be a head-honcho at either Michelin or Bridgestone (can't remember exactly which) in Australia, and after only being on the job for a couple of years, he quit because he couldn't stand the lack of quality-control in the Australian plants compared to the ones he was in charge of overseas.

So, I just picked up a new pair of Japanese made 195/50r15 Adrenalin RE001s for the missus's car from the local Bridgestone dealer. He said they were among the last of the Jap ones he could find for me. They were mid 2007 manufacture but cheap at $125. All are now sourced from a plant in Sth Aus.

I'd say snap the Japanese ones up while they're still there, coz after that we'll have to start looking once again for a new good performing affordable street/occasional track tyre.
