MX-5 SE owners, factory catch can question?
Re Boost Cut and O2 Mod.
1. I have just fitted the O2 Mod and it made a huge difference.
The car is smooth, linear and lovely to drive now.
Its not about revs though, the clamp it kicking in at about -2psi to 0 psi.
This can be even at low revs but under load. It really smoothed out the power curve.
2. I also suffer boost cut, but it doesnt simply happen at 10psi or whatever.
It seems to happen under hard acceleration in 3rd and 4th at between 5 and 6k.
Very inconsistent though, only happens sometimes when really going hard.
Whats to fix to overide, or increase boost cut limit?

Boost cut is not just a fixed rate, its load based as well. IE You can hit above 10.5 psi without cut, below 5000rpm.

Results are in!
134.3kw @ rear wheels, with boost as close to boost cut as possible
02 mod set up on the dyno to activate just transitioning into boost and the car now feel like it should have from factory! Pulls smoothly and strongly, i'm an extremely happy man! 30kw extra would be ideal, but i'll enjoy it as is for a while before looking down that route. Will post the dyno sheet tomorrow once I scan it.

MINXy, info can be found here:
http://www.mazda-speed.com/forum2/index ... 873.0.html
I'm keen to do it as the boost controller is set very close to 10psi, but we had a lot of problems hitting boost cut on the dyno at various boost/load levels around that area, but i'm a little nervous to remove it all together as that leaves no failsafe if things go wrong for just a split second! Ideal would be moving it to 12psi, but not sure if that is possible.
Phil, did the Haltech allow you to remove your boost cut?

134kw @ 10psi aye? Not too shabby. Mine's putting out the same but on standard boost. Looks like I should fit my boost controller sooner than planned hehe

Fuzzlet, yours will not be 'standard' boost anymore after fitting those mods! Boost will increase due to the increase airflow in and out of your engine so once on a dyno you will find it is close to 9.5-9.8psi currently
Damn that boost cut, just trying to weight up whether it is worth going a Haltech Intercepter and some bigger injectors, or to leave it as is!
Phil, how do you find driveability? Is it still tractable and civilised or is it wheelspin city when you are trying to get moving quickly?

Haha when I say standard boost, I mean with no boost controller. Unfortunately my dyno printout doesnt have what boost level it runs at. Need to run it again sometime anyway, so we shall see

It drives according to how you map it, however in saying that the OEM rubber and coilovers dont like high power output.
