Terry... I can be pedantic and paranoid at times.
And at times, when I'm both, it borders on obsessive compulsive.

And saying to oneself, "it's just a car, it's just a car, it's just a car", helps ......

if you want a mild power increase look into some cam shafts, gears and a piggy back.

That being said if your not using water at all I think you are safe

Mazda heads are a bit soft, if they overheat they distort and the valves won't seal. If you don't have any misses or are down on power that another good sign

I dabble with a Under 2L Improved Production engine(3SGE NA, 200rwhp), with multi valve heads there is never a huge gain like old V8 iron but there is a gain to be had if you find someone who knows how to port properly. There are a few dud shops around here. In a port job the seats should be cut as the gains in the seat can be more than the gains in the port job.

You mean a CO (carbon monoxide) test?

Do you run cars on just unmixed "coolant"?

My best friend is a mechanic for a large dealership chain in Brisbane, and although he offered to do this test, he said that it is virtually useless. Unless the coolant has massive amounts of CO it shows up bubkis.

Everytime I stop after a drive, I pop my head under the hood and check levels, and check the radiator for contamination. So far el zippo, I think I dodged a bullet. *knocks on wood* :)
I've had the engine oil tested too and no fuel or coolant contamination.
