Piggyback problem wiring diagram oz spec 96

Postby mossy » Tue Sep 02, 2008 4:55 pm

Ok guys I need some help, I've got the FFS coldside with e-cool and the PC-PRO piggyback system but it seems to be running pig rich, it has idle dip when I start it and when I try to rev it it blows a lot of black smoke and stalls. I tried plugging the standard ECU back in and it seems to idle fine with no black smoke and doesn't stall when I rev it, would my 96 have any different wiring to say a 94 or 95 that could be causing a problem, I'm lost!!!

Piggyback ECU problem

Mossy, just going by the pin diagrams in this http://www.miataturbo.net/forum/showthread.php?t=13676 the 96 is different from the 94-5. I'll have a bit more of a search for the MAF pins which I assume are the ones you want to know about.

Piggyback ECU problem

Mossy, the NA8 went from OBDI to OBDII in '95 (early '95 I believe), hence the '93 - '94 NA8 ECU plug was the same as the NA6 ECU plug which allowed direct plug-in use of the Wolf3D V4 for the NA6 from Wolf. I also understand that there were additional or different sensors used with the OBDII engines. I believe this would mean your '96 would have some different wiring to a '94 & some '95s - good luck.

Thanks for the info guys, hopefully i can get this sorted soon but its looking like I'll be missing sandown as well as winton :frown:

I spoke to Tom at FFS for about 45mins the other day Fatty trying to lock down the problem but we came up with nothing at this stage, Tom is getting the pc pro programmer sent to me so I can download to my laptop and reflash the cards, I hope this works.

Piggyback ECU problem

Postby tk421 » Sun Sep 07, 2008 10:00 pm

Hi Mossy,

I Had to raise the fuel pressure via an AFPR due to an NB8A having an NA8 style fuel setup in Aus (a 99 is more like the NB8B in the U.S). The changing fuel pressure from the regulator is making it run rich in the mid range. It was running out of fuel partly because I was not sent the high pressure fuel rail - which I now have waiting for install - and also because the cards need a different fuel curve on them. Ton had not idea about the fuel set up difference in an Aus car, why would he I guess. Tom sent me the files to put an NA8 curve on them ie it will have more fuel afterwards, and of course the programmer though I haven't got round to uploading them yet. I will be doing this in a few weeks time and also taking the opportunity to have the new fuel rail installed and my injectors cleaned. It's made decent hp so far even on the 105mm pulley (135 rw kw fairly consistently). I'm hoping that it will become a lot more consisent once the PC pro's are doing all the work.

Its funny how the same car can be sold in two places and be entirely different in various ways - I guess you are discovering this as well to an extent (ie maybe a wring difference). I know there are a few kits in the UK now as well so hopefully the niggles will be sorted out as time goes on. I presume you went the coldside and not hot? Its a fun thing to drive with torque everywhere. I'm sure you will enjoy once you get over this little drama :).

Cheers

Steve

Back to the problem again, just cant seem to get it sorted. Does anyone have a copy of the ECU wiring diagram for an Aus 96 mx5 so I can compare it to the us version, thanks.

Mossy, not sure if you found an ECU wiring diagram for an Aust delived '96 NA8, but the following URL provides differences between OBD1 & OBD2 ECU, in the US at least, as per your initial post.
