Can someone tell what this part is?

I have a NB8C 03 model with stock airbox.

This item has a lead ran into it, has power and ground to this plug. I pulled it out of the airbox and its just a plastic tip, I am suspecting that it is some sort of temperature sensor in the factory air box
If I get myself some pipes to make a CAI kit, do I still need this plug?

Its the Intake Air Temp Sensor
O2 is in the Exhaust.

It won't fuel properly without it (not sure if it will even start or may start but just run Open loop fuel mixtures)

for my CAI i fixed it just on the outside of the K&N filter
The closer to the suction the more accurate it will be.

The best place is just after filter before AFM

Yep it's a temp sensor
if you are going for a pod filter just drill a hole in the top of it and insert sensor there

Most definitely not an O2 sensor! As per some of the posts in the thread, that's an air temperature sensor.
