Heya folks,
So I was procrastinating at work again and stumbled upon the 949 website, in my quest to get lighter and more responsive wheels.
according to the 949 website NO MODS are needed for the 15*9 6UL rims to fit a NB8B?

Is this claim really justified?

Be careful; the US NB8B has NB8A brakes on it. You have to check if the rims will fit with the sports brake package (what we get standard).
I would have thought that width would have caused the biggest problem though.

also keep in mind that we generally don't get the same tyre range as they do in the states. they tend to put 275 35's on those. I would stick with 8's.

In the first sentence it clearly states that it requires cutting fenders, (adding) flares and/or spacers.
The second sentence then states that the Miata does not require cutting of sheet metal. Now this could mean it is unnecessary to remove the entire quarter panel (going to be hard for the rears) and cutting it.
Anyway, to answer your questions once and for all, here is a link to the thread by 949 Racing at CR explaining the difficulty in the fitment ->clicky
Basically, pulling/stretching/flares/camber/spacers and the "get creative, massage the car a little to solve clearance issues..." are all mentioned
They will clear both Wilwood BBK and factory Sport brakes (what we got standard).
In short - you will be needing modifications to fit these wheels.

Sure you can ‘do it’ but keep your bank balance topped up and a spare set of standard wheels in the garage to fit every time you are pulled over by Mr Plod and booked for running an illegal set of wheels.
I’ve said this numerous times, check with your States rules and regs on wheel modifications before you go to the expense of buying big wheels for your car.
In NSW you can only increase the width, diameter and track by 1” over standard.
And remember the more you increase the weight and overall diameter of your new wheels/tyres over standard the slower you will go.

they will fit an NB but what tyres will you run?? The link has the tyres you can run but as mentioned some of the sizes are hard to get out here.
The first post in the link mx52nv added was done pre production and so isnt as accurate as the stuff on the website.
If you really want to go light look at 949's 7's and 8's. Wider tyres will weigh more too.

But the 9's look awesome.

Easy, wide dish rims with stretched sporty tyres for street and skinny light rims with semis for the track.

It'd be nicer to drive on the street with the light skinnies though... Stop/start driving is where you'll really notice the difference

Old thread but I though I should chime in just the same. 225/45/15's on 15x9 6UL's clear the NB wheel openeing at full lock, full bump. All 6UL wheels clear OEM Sport Brakes. Check the 15x9 pics gallery to see what they look like. Same combo on an NA require a medium roll on the fornt and a slight roll in the rear. FWIW, 8's don't look bad at near stock ride height but the 9's look a bit goofy near stock height. Good idea to remove the liners on the NA with 9's as you are bound to want to lower it and will quickly use up a bunch more bump travel with the added ccompression force generated by the substantial increase in cornering grip.
