GB: Toyo Proxes R888 - dead

Postby Boags » Fri Sep 26, 2008 9:33 am

As the title suggests; looking for expressions of interest to join on a group buy of Toyo Proxes R888 semi-slicks. This will be finalised in the next week, so be quick.

So far there are 3 of us in Brisbane wanting to purchase R888s before the next track day. Lots of sizes available, but for reference list price on 1 x 205/50R15 is $284 fitted and balanced. Buying 3 sets the price is $270/tyre. The more we have the cheaper it'll get for all of us. You'll have to commit to getting them and then organise a time with the shop to get them fitted. Payment will be made directly to the tyre shop. There may be a fee to dispose of old tyres.

From past experience and advice from a trusted friend I'll be buying my set from Michael at Tyretech in Albion.

Sizes available according to Toyo, availability may be different (I don't have prices on other sizes at this stage):

I may be interested, depending how cheap they turn out and if my credit card allows, I wouldn't be able to get them for at least a couple weeks though?

I have been thinking about lashing out on a set since I have never really had a good set of semis and I need some so I can get some good lap times :D 8)

Timmy; I reckon we won't get them much better than $260. Save around $100 all up though, that's fuel for 2 trackdays.

Yeah with all that power he should be heaps quicker... I wanna see at least 64's on the clubman and at least 61's on the sprint  .

Problem is I need to learn how to drive the track again, for some reason all my braking distances are way off :? I can only try :D

Let me do a little more searching in the meantime, before I commit I need to make sure I have checked all possibilities and also have funds available.

Cheers, Tim

I love the idea of a GB. I got my set of 205 50 15s from Tyretech for $275 F&B but I know you can get them OS for not much more than 1/2 that price. I reckon if we put our minds to it we can get a much better deal than $260 each.

Time to start talking seriously to people importing containers and stop paying mark-up on top of mark-up. Monday's track day set me back about $50 in fuel, $80 for the entry and about $200 in tyre wear! So I am very keen to not just save 5% but lots more.

Oh, and GG is the compound to get. Don't get caught with cheap one-lap wonders.

What are the chances of getting them in before the 16th if we import though? :?:

I'm all about saving $$; but not if it is inferior to the local product.

How do we go on from here?

I don't mind forgoing one track day and get a set for next-next track day so we have time to get something decent and a better price.
If Mokesta can get them for $275 by himself, then $270 for a few ppl is a little lacklustre from Tyretech.
Boags, you wanted to try out another brand of semi-slicks anyways so I think we should exercise some patience here.

Boags, any chance of you finding out a GB price for these in 195/50/15 for me?

Also, when you thinking we'll be buying? Is it going to be a Sat a.m visit to tyretech for all of us, or how do you see this being co-ordinated?
Pain is temporary, quitting lasts forever.
