........i haven't heard of anyone busting their shocks just because they've put in some aftermarket springs.. even with king springs.....

AZNTien does do autocross/motorkhana stuff, and the coilover suspension will benefit him.

On that fact alone the SS or equivalent are worth it. Even Koni yellows with good quality springs, as long as the stiffnesses are matched correctly, it will cost similar to the ss anyway but the SS are complete and just bolt it, and have better height adjustment.

How much does the tein system lower the car exactly? Because the 5's already scrape pretty easy if you not careful (which I am! Lol) How different is the lowest and highest setting on the coilover from factory?

i'm not sure if you believe in reasearch or not? or maybe i have too much time on my hands to reasearch, basically tein SS are a package yeah? well basically with a matching shock and spring combo you want/need to figure out how stiff you want the spring rate, what spring rate the shock can handle to get it right.

That's indeed the correct mentality to have. However the benefit of super streets is that all the work's been done for you. You don't need to try and match up shock to spring as it's already done. You need only check the overall result and it's done and dusted.

Doing things cheap doesnt always mean its bad, whether its buying used or buying an item lower then another. With the logic of whats the point of upgrading, your going to need to spend ALOT of money in your sence to "Do it right" in your standards.

Most definitely not. Tein super streets aren't cheap new. I bought my super streets second hand (thanks again irwin ). It's possible to do things right and do it at the right price rather than an expensive price. You just need to be patient.

So Tien, has your head exploded with all this advice yet?

It happens....it happened to me.

It's not that they necessarily bust shocks... they shorten the lifespan
The thing with suspension is that springs and dampers work together... and when you change one without the other (as is the case with adding lowering springs only) the dampers are now dealing with a situation they were not designed for, and are stressed more and thus will wear out faster

Was it an excessive lowering? What happened?

It was just lowered by about 5mm. The springs were stiffer than the old stock ones and killed the rear stock shocks - oil leaked out everywhere. A set of adjustable Konis fixed it all. I would definitely have gone for adjustable Tein springs and shocks if they had been (or I had known they were) available then.

JBT which one would you have gone for? the super street or the basic? basic is only height adjustable

The SS would be my pick.......and the Oz version is well sorted for the MX-5 and our rubbish roads.
