Injectors and pump with turbo kit
My AVO kit came with a fifth injector, and supposedly will work fine with a stock pump, but I want to run four larger than stock injectors and a bigger fuel pump just to have a bit of extra peace-of-mind.
What brand/size injectors and pumps have you guys used?

upgrading the pump is not necessary in many (most?) applications. i use 460cc rx7 injectors with the stock pump and it delivers more than enough fuel pressure for my needs. iirc there is a relationship between injector size and fuel pressure, upgrading one or the other is often all that is needed, you usually only need to upgrade both for really high power applications. there was some good info about this on miataturbo iirc.
but anyway, the walbro seems to be the pump of choice if you want to upgrade, or the pierburg. but those with first hand experience are probably better suited to give advice in this regard.

I'm running the standard fuel pump, with 330cc high impedance injectors and 9 pounds of boost. I have a wideband O2 sensor and gauge so I can see the AFR at all times and to make sure I'm not leaning out or running too rich. If anything I am running too rich especially at the high levels of boost
Does the AVO kit come with some way of controlling the fuel, ie piggy back or replacement ECU?
I would suggest having a look at the FAQ section of miataturbo.net Heaps to read and understand.

My car had 370cc injectors and I went to a higher capacity Walbro in tank pump.
Had no issues at all with that at 160rwkw.
I have to say that I am not a fan of 5th injector setups. If you can afford/justify the extra expense a stand alone ecu will give you much better results. I may have my EMS dualsport for sale soon with a loom to suit a 1.8. Happy to leave the map in it.

Yes I agree with this completely as I did the exact same thing (started with a 5th injector way back in 1999).Adam_NAclubman wrote:My AVO kit came with a fifth injector, and supposedly will work fine with a stock pump, but I want to run four larger than stock injectors and a bigger fuel pump just to have a bit of extra peace-of-mind.
I use 550cc RX7 Turbo injectors (aka "purpletops"), a Bosch 044 external fuel pump and a custom surge tank. Good for over 300rwhp and sprint/hill climb use.Adam_NAclubman wrote:What brand/size injectors and pumps have you guys used?

i would avoid rx7 injectors for a piston car. every tuner I have spoken to says they have a very messy spray pattern. if you want a good upgrade injector i would get something like the familar gtr injectors or even some supra 7mgte 430cc injectors. you can get oem quality brand spankers from the states for around 60 bucks usd each.

The kit came with this sub-computer but I think I'd rather get an Adaptec or something... I was looking at going for a MegaSquirt but I was told their resolution isnt so great?

Adam, just for reference, TDR includes a Walbro 255 LPH 130 PSI fuel pump in their boost upgrade kit for the JR M45 SC.
Garry, not sure if you know, or already have one, but you can get a heavy duty rubber sleeve for your Walbro fuel pump to quieten it down (see below).

Dunno what they are talking about there considering they are all the same type of injector, only difference is the flow rate.

I think what he means is that they have been reported to have a different spray pattern which affects the atomisation and combustion process, I don't know how much of this is true however as I haven't seen the spray pattern for a rotary engined injector vs a piston engine. Would make sense though given the different shape of combustion chamber?

They have the same pintle type tip. The only issue I have heard is that you need to get them flow tested properly as 2 of them do tend to get quite hot on the rotary, and this had been said to affect the operation of the injector.
When I got mine I had them flowed one of them was flowing more than the others which meant it was stuffed, so I got onto the seller I got them from and had him send me another.

Thanks for the info 93_Clubman. I have already wrapped it up in a rubber product and it's helped things a bit. But it seems to be getting noisier again. Maybe my pump is dieing.
