Hi Folks.
Sorry if this is covering a well-known topic but I have had trouble finding conclusive info on this forum, and elsewhere. Here's my question...
Can the rear upper shock mounts from an NB be fitted to my NA in order to provide me with more shock travel?
The reason for the question... I am planning to take my Koni Sports (Yellow) onto the lower setting, so I'm going to need more shock travel to keep me off the bump-stops.
I know about the after-market upper spring mounts out there from Flyin Miata and Fat Cat Motorsports, and I understand the benefits of more travel. These aren't cheap products, so I'm looking for alternatives. Thus far I have had trouble finding out whether the switch to the NB shock mounts is an effective way of achieving more shock travel, hence the question.
Second question... If the conversion to NB parts is effective, by how much can I expect my shock travel to increase?
Third question... Which NB parts are necessary in doing the conversion? At this stage I believe it will be as follows:
- the upper spring perch,
- the rubber bushes that go directly above and below the spring perch, and
- probably the bump stops.
If anyone has done this conversion to their NA6, please share your secrets.
I would be really grateful for any info regarding NB rear upper spring mounts.
Cheers,
Trav.

yes you can put in NB top mounts.
But not sure on how much it increases in travel- according to this thread, he says it doesnt increase travel but lowers it more?

If you make this mod at the rear can you still fit the spare wheel in the correct position?

Thanks for the replies, especially for that great link philz.
The answer is definitely yes, the NB rear upper spring mounts can be used on an NA. Here is a link to a complete description of how to fabricate and assemble the necessary parts.

This guy assembles Koni Sport dampers using Ground Control Springs and adjustable lower spring perch, with NB upepr spring mounts and custom urethane bushes. This closely replicates the arrangement of the FatCat upper mounts.
I have located a set of second-hand NB upper mounts, and will have those in-hand just as soon as the wrecker can deliver them. When I have put this all together I will get some measurements on how much extra travel this setup gives me.
Mokesta, I see no reason why the modified upper mounts would interfere with the spare wheel, but I haven't done the mod yet so I can't be sure. Can anyone answer this conclusively?
