1JZ supra engine into a NB8B
Hi All,
As the title suggest an opportunity has risen and a mate can sell me his 1JZ engine with MX5 conversion kit ... still waiting on costs but is it worth it.
Would like to hear everyones 2c worth
Cheers Paul

no - iron block will ruin it. you are better off buying an LS2 conversion kit from FM in the states.

hell yea go the 1J!!!! They are only a few, tens of, pound heavier than an SR20, from what i've heard about ppl tossing up the RB or 1J conversion into a silvia.
1J will make a sh*t load of power on the stock bottom end, though a LS would be nice you actually have the opportunity to do the 1J so its more realistic and i reckon it'd be awesome!!

Make sure you do your research first, then if you are still keen I reckon go for it.
Would be a great fun car, and an animal with the right turbo setup on it. And one other thing, take your cost estimates for the conversion and double it, maybe even triple it. When engine conversions happen costs have a habit of running away a bit. They are a great challenge though, and very rewarding when finished.

Nark,
I have done a few engine conversions myself and have always found them rewarding. Especially when you go for the first drive.

Basically, I don't think you would be able to get it legally registered as;
-Engine capacity (2.5 and a turbo)
-Age of motor (it is older than the body)
-you're in NSW which is very strict with Engineering.

If that's true, that means you have to go down the track of an emissions test which is complicated and expensive.

Thanks all for your 2c worth and more!
Even though it may be boring might just go for an insane NA beast.
oh btw its not Chucks old setup its somebody else's.
Just for the sake of procrastination now whats the rarest setup people have seen in 5's?
Cheers Paul

mmm 20b MX-5
As well as the weight issue, you want to make sure the gear box still uses the power plant frame.
It's an important consideration a lot of engine conversions ignore.

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

I'm still (after all of the negativity from some people around) planning to put a Honda C32A (175kw, 295nm ALL ALLOY 3.2 litre V6) into an NA (no plans to register it)

C32B would be even sweeter, is there room to put the C32A east west under the MX bonnet?
