changing Alternator Belt

Postby Boost » Sat Sep 06, 2008 4:34 pm

Hi guys is there a way to undo the alternator on the NB8A so that i can slide the belt on? i have undone all the bolts on the bracket but the alternator pulley is still too far. I tried to undo the bolt at the back of the alternator securing it to the engine but i cant get access to it. Any suggestions?

There's a tensioner pulley somewhere isn't there? You have to undo that as well.

changing Alternator Belt

I do remember when I replaced mine that it was a really tight fit.
From memory, there was a fair bit of force applied to lever the alternator upwards and toward the engine.
I can't remember exactly how I did it.
This may be a dumb question, and no insult intended, but did you get the correct length of belt?
Have you tried putting the belt onto the alternator first and then looping it around the crank and main pulleys?

no insult taken. 8)
Yeh the length is correct cause its the same as the original.
I've tried running the belt over the main pulleys then over the alternator and vise versa and still no luck.
The alternator is so bloody stiff its impossible to tilt it closer to the engine without loosening the bottom bolt.
This is my Day 2 attempt a the bolt.

Boost,

I have an NA8 so my set-up may be different to yours but I just had to loosen the one bolt facing forwards (arrowed from below in my pic) then wind out the tensioner that faces the side (other arrow). After a LOT of winding, the alternator rotated enough for the belt to come off. No need to reach any other bolts.
