Anyone else had a problem with there speedbleeders leaking? I got back from the last track day and my brakes were really soft, and I noticed my fluid was down a bit. Neither of these things normally happen, I'd installed the bleeders before the track day. I bled my brakes today and noticed that the dust caps on the bleed nipples had small amounts of fluid inside them. The bleeder on the clutch is fine it's just the brakes. I think I'll switch back to the normal bleed nipples.

as per comment by CT in another thread.

You don't have speedbleeders do you? If so, I've found them not to be as good as everyone reckons as well......they don't always seal on the caliper properly.

I'd be interested to know if it's just track work that makes then leak. I can't find my original front ones but the hex nut on them was a bit stripped so not a big deal, hopefully I'll be upgrading the brakes soon anyway.

They do sell the sealant that goes on the threads, if that is where they are leaking from.

it's leaking out of the nipple, you can see oil under the dust cap.

Are you sure they are leaking? When you bleed the brakes it's normal to have a few drops of fluid still in the end of the nipple when the rubber caps go back on. Get some one to push the pedal while you are watching the nipple with the rubber cap off - if they're leaking you'll see fluid weep out (or worse squirt out!). if nothing happens it is just residual fluid. I would expect them to leak around the threaded section from repeated use rather than the nipple end.

There leaking, the clutch was bled at the same time and has no oil under the cap. The brake fluid level is going down slowly. I read that the bleeders sometimes don't seat properly thus not blocking up the bleed hole. I'm not loosing much oil but am getting air in the system.

So when you press on the pedal it eventually sinks to the floor and liquid is cummin out of the nipple? It would suck having to go back to oem ones...

My brakes go soft on track days too. Not sure why, but it happened before I put speed bleeders too. Mine aren't leaking. A bit of fluid in the cap is nothing, you won't feel that, it would have to be gushing out.

Fluid level should drop as the pads wear out.

Brake fluid will go down in the resivour as the pads wearout. Also bleed nipples are not designed to seal on the threads, and should never have teflon tape used on them, as this may stop them from seating correctly (and then leak). The Mazda bleed nipples have a taper on the end that is tightened into a seat in the caliper body, and this seals the system. Speed bleeders only have thread sealant on them to stop the system drawing air in past the threads when they are cracked open for bleeding. As for having a soft pedal after a trackday, try and bleed them and see if you have any air in there, but if in doudt, have it looked at by a specialist, because brakes arn't a luxury item.

I've bled them and there was air in the system. The brakes never felt too bad after track days until putting the bleeders in but maybe I'm making too much of it. I'll keep an eye on them and see how they go.

I have used 2 loctite products to reseal them but as the threads are not the same, the will eventually leak again. Go to a brake place an buy some standard ones. If you use good brake fluid - you won't need to bleed them after every track day, just ever 6 months or so. I only knock the top of the fluid on the race car every 2 race meetings as the heat starts to degrade it's performance when the rotors get over 550deg C.
