don't mess up the heater core tubes while you at it.

you might not be the only one working on a car this weekend. my recirc BOV just arrived today. spiffy, compact & rather subtle looking. though i wonder if i should leave the atmo one on till after the VH cruise :D

Hey did you get the hoses?

I am in SA too, which Mazda dealer did you get them through and how much?

Mine burst on Thursday night ! Argh !Haven't had a chance to look at it till today.

Did you check underneath your CAS for an oil leak like JBT mentioned? I think this is the culprit that caused mine to burst.

But yes the heater core copper pipes are soft as !! Be ultra careful with them.

Hm... I seem to be having some bad luck with this car... I've only owned it for a month and have had to change the clutch slave cylinder, rebuild the rear brake calipers and now this. Oh and the rear soft top screen cracked too...

another Adelaide driver :)

you can order them through Motor Traders as well, a direct to public wholesaler. i find around where i am, that just about all automotive retailers & mechanics order parts through them.

bad luck bout your car, the clutch slave & CAS ring are common things to go on MX5s. how old & how many Kays has yours done?

well if you get it fixed in time, check out the Adelaide MX5 events section.

Yeah turns out Motor Traders, Repco and Sprints don't have them. They all told me to go genuine Mazda which I'll have to wait till atleast Monday. Sounds like it takes a couple days if I order from Mazda too...

It's a 93 which has done 214 000 k's.

Yeah I saw the event on the 14th...

Still tossing up between that and a late night Saturday night.

hrm interesting. if they can't get them that'd probably mean the australian aftermarket manufacturers doesn't make them for our cars.. not enough demand for them i gather, though i was able to get radiators hoses ordered through Motor Mate.

Oh, I should have been more clear.

Those places stock aftermarket top and bottom radiator hoses for the 5, but unfortunately the aftermarket companies don't do the heater hoses.

Found a big enough pair of pliers to get around the clamps, so I've just changed the hoses. You guys were correct, oil leak under the CAS resulting in a split in that hose.

Do I need to bleed the coolant system when I refill it?

Castrol Radicool in my MX5. Though if I were to change it again I'd probably go Tectaloy 90 Plus just because it's Australian made.

The Familia, I have demineralised water & Water Wetter in.

I filled the radiator then ran the engine at idle for a few minutes with the radiator cap off until the coolant started expanding and was about to overflow, then put the cap on and checked that it was dripping into the expansion tank, then filled that so that when the thermostat opened it would have excess to draw from to fill the hoses and just kept an eye on the level in there. Let it run for a while till it had been at normal operating temperature for a couple of minutes then switched it off. Checked the level an hour later before work, and also at 10pm before I left work
