Brake Hydraulic Leak

Postby Noodle » Sat Aug 30, 2008 12:48 am

There's currently a hydraulic leak in my braking system.

Just before I try to investigate where it's leaking, are there any common places that MX5's braking systems leak ? I have a NA8 if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance.

Brake Hydraulic Leak

Ok... I have found the leak.

It seems to be leaking from my rear brake calipers, out of the piston wind back allen key bolt. Is there a seal there that I can replace? Or do I need to buy entire new calipers?

Keep in mind I am not refering to the piston caliper seals in the brake pad side.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

The rear caliper seal and boot set includes an O-ring that goes around that allen keyed bolt. It could be that. It's not listed separately in a Mazda parts catalogue, but it just looks like an O-ring. Check out part 3, which is part of the 26-46Z kit for an NA8.

In any case, given that there's a leak of some sort in one caliper, I'd personally replace all seals in both calipers on that axle at least (and more likely all 4 calipers), and also consider re-honing bores and replacing pistons if they don't look perfect. Any leak is a sign of danger. James sells replacement kits from mx5centre.com.au

Thanks for the reply

Was exactly what I was after !

Out of curiousity... where did you get that image from?

Do you have access to a Mazda parts no. catalog?
