Well, a read of the last few pages and a very well written warning by an earier post and Stan not wanting to be a part of it :(

Keep in mind that we are being observed and a group of MX5 drivers seen to be doing the wrong thing will make a wonderful subject for those who would throw stones.

We don't knowingly go out to break the road rules I hope and certainly don't go around here talking as though we do.

This is a public forum and anyone can read what you write here :)

And remember, this is a public forum and the Local Constabulary have a habit of having a look see at what car clubs and forums are up to and may end up being uninvited guests when you least expect them.

Yerp, keep the silly behavior for playstation or Xbox. If you are going to drive at any higher than 7th tenths then take it to the track. That'll soon humble a few people I reckon.

As a moderator this thread has been brought to my attention, seems Bob is well aware of it too.

I think Josh and Stephan make excellent points.

While we all LOVE spirited driving, you have to be mindful that this forum can not encourage or support illegal activity.

MX-5 owners love a great bit of road and we join a forum to share our passion. It's great to organise cruises and meet up with each other.

Please be mindful that there may be some in experienced drivers attend who try to emulate far better drivers. While you may be smart enough to drive at a level where your limits are not challenged, the driver behind might be trying to "keep up" and inadvertently go beyond their own limits. It's very easy to think "if their MX-5 can corner that fast mine can too", but that doesn't consider facts like tyre choice, tyre condition, tyre inflation, suspension modifications, weight balance, alignment and the drivers ability to slow the car down in a straight line before the corner etc.

This is one of the reasons the MX-5 club of W.A. doesn't cruise in "convoy", we all drive at our own pace (legally) between regroup points.

I hope that everyone has fun and a safe cruise, please be mindful of everyone else in the group. Don't push anyone towards their limits, keep a safe distance between cars and be mindful of the road rules, other road users, the road condition and wild life.

The one time I went on the Putty road I think at least half the cars received some sort of damage and none of which could be contributed to unsafe driving practise.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

I'm not fretting Alex, I'm going to stay towards the back and take it easy. I had a look at some videos of putty runs on youtube, and it looks to be extremely challenging....

So currently, how many people are actually going???

I think it's a shame people are pulling out of this, especially now when it's so close to the planned date (and I've already gotten my leave approved, only half a shift though).
Even more so since it's over what seems to be a forumites having a playful ego contest online which I doubt would have any impact on the drive at all (unless you guys really are planning Initial D style races).
Stan it seems that you know the road better than anyone else going so you would be able to set a safe pace. In comparison think about what could happen if one of the younger or less experienced drivers (like myself) ends up leading, to me that sounds like a recepie for disaster. (not that i'm saying anyone here is not a capable driver)

Anyway it looks like a decision has been made and if we are really stuck with noone leading then I'm happy to lead as long as the other Alex is alright with that as she will be my passenger and whoever is directly behind me has ABS, comrehensive insurance, and doesn't drive on my arse (I'm a little paranoid when it comes to being rear ended :P ). Just take note that I have NEVER dríven on this road (so no complaining about how slow I go).

I agree 100% Alex. It's a shame people are dropping out, because it seems like it will be a great day, and a perfect chance to meet and/or catch up with fellow enthusiasts.

Oh and Alex Hailstone, if you don't want to go at the front (especially considering what happened on old pac), you're more than welcome to ride with me :D

I am fine with that, I trust your driving 100% and know your not out to prove anything.
Its generally only people coming the other way I don't trust.

Thanks Andrew :D we'll see what happens on the day, but I'd be interested to jump in your car just to see what its like. Plus these dash lights intrigue me and I'm kicking myself for not checking them out on friday.

That's cool... You should come for a ride at some point though, because my Mx is definitely better than Alex's hahahahaha...

The dash lights are nothing particularly special, but they work well & for $20, you can't go wrong..

Looks like a kid in comparison to ghost rider. Seriously 200km/h on the straight and 130km/h through some blind bends is exactly the type of behaviour that is not being advocated.

If your lucky you might not end up looking like this.

Sounds like an attempt at emotional blackmail.

lol I can't believe this, sliq is right, you guys are hilarious, mountain from a mole hill. Do you actually think we are being serious with each other, challenging each other and so called "chest beating"? Since the beginning of the thread all people have been doing is joking around, telling people how to drive and showing people pictures of crashed cars (that latter two sounding like the government ).

Where has someone said, "hay bro ur car's sh*t I could beet u in a towgay challenge on putty rd." "Ur on!"
I think you're confusing our little group for another car manufacturer's.

The chances of crashing? how many mx5's have crashed on this road, divide that by how many cars of any make have crashed, I'd say its a very small percentage. Mx5's are not very powerful, have extremely good handling and aren't dríven by gorillas, we'll be fine, and if someone plants their car into the barrier, they'll have learnt something about their car or ability that would perhaps prevent them from plowing into a person or something dangerous later in life. Its not like an mx5 can actually go that fast in those short straights.

And look how tough the car is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTZl9V17U4Y

And who said anything about doing anything illegal? If you can hold the speed limit the whole way you're probably doing rather well. We are just driving on a road at a safe speed from point A to point B, for the purpose of having fun, we're not racing, plenty of us go to track days for that, this is just to enjoy the sights and a little g force.

I had to have a look at the road to see what it was like, and to be honest, it doesn't look anywhere near as bad as everyone makes it out to be, the road looks to be in good condition, there are barriers where they need to be, most of the corners aren't that tight or blind and there is plenty of signage clearly showing what's next and the recommended speed to guide you, usually you can go almost double in an mx5 (assuming its still below the speed limit).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4EGrrzSgHY

Looks to be a fantastic road, things I could see to be an issue is overtaking traffic (virtually impossible without a motor bike), fatigue, it just goes on forever (nothing we can't avoid by taking breaks, (are there places for that?), and thirdly peoples braking systems, since there are so many corners in succession with small straights in between the brakes are going to get pretty hot and if people have crap fluid or pads they're gonna find out one corner that they've overheated, the car won't stop and they plow into the wall.

I think everyone should make sure they have high temp brake fluid with no air in their brake systems before sunday so that nobody boils it and crashes. Fitting good pads would be a good idea too, never skimp on brakes.

STM its a shame you're pulling out because with your knowledge of the road we would be honoured if you could lead us. Somebody going an appropriate speed at the front forces everyone to take it easy as they have to keep a distance to the car in front, with you gone and nobody that knows the road and an appropriate speed you've effectively made it more dangerous for the people going.

And having said that, chances are I won't be brining my car on sunday anyway, I'll probably tag passenger with someone and take photos, or bring the swift.
