but the idea is that you find a set (or one) of suzuki swift gti seats, they are pretty much like mini wrx seats, and they are reclinable. i dont know how much they are worth or how much work is needed to get them to fit into the mx-5 but they are pretty comfy for what they are.

stuff all support in them compared to the aftermarket seats in the previous posts. The side bolsters are flimsy. But the seats look the goods! (My brother is a gti freak)

I think it may have been a Melb guy with a stripped out interior and lots of other goodies (didn't he have the KG works centre tunnel carpet thingo and a Nardi wheel) ?

That was Andy Wana. I dug up the details when I first had the notion of going seat hunting (couldn't for the life of me remember his user name until I searched for "bride seat" or something equivalent to it on the forum). He hasn't been poking about for quite some time, so I thought I might just leave him be rather than resurrect him. At least for the moment

I'm a fairly light build, and if the bolsters were going to cause me that much grief for getting in and out, I'd probably just hoist myself in either off the A pillar of the roof. Either way, this all depends on whether I go down the Bride path or not. Even with all the importers and whatnot, I don't think it would be cheap to get a hold of a set.

Andy has moved on to RX8 land now, and I think he sold the seat separately when he sold the car. If you are of smaller stature the Bride would be ideal - it looked superb and was very comfortable even with me in it

The issue (well, not really an issue, but rather not suiting my requirements) with Andy's Bride was that it was a fixed back. Although it was probably quite comfortable (I only ever saw it, never actually sat in it that I remember) I'd still prefer to have the reclining functionality.

of course, but they are not an aftermarket seat, so you would expect them to hug you like santa on christmas day. they are better then the stockies, which is where it counts. ask your brother how much these seats go for :D

Why so you can let the people out of the back seat?

lol I can just see people laughing when they see the word "bride" on the drivers seat in an mx5. Then you have to explain that its pronounced like "pide" you get at kebab shops.

Come and sit in my seat and you will change your mind, its made for people like you. Wait you already drove my car, didn't you like the seat? You were more fascinated by the tyres I think (scared the crap out of me on one corner).

If I remember correctly, your seat was great for racing, but I get the feeling it wouldn't be so much fun as a daily drive seat.

Anyway, I've decided to source myself some Mazdaspeed Type Fs from Japan. We'll see how it all pans out soon enough 8)

You bet. Not like it's hard for us to catch each other during lunch
Hopefully it'll be here sooner rather than later, but when it arrives, I'll be sure to let you know. We can even go for a quick lunch time spin. Especially since I'm getting a pair.

There is a trader on astinagt that can get Mazdaspeed Type-F, and I believe he already has two sets in australia, that are available for purchase of around $1000-$1200ish.

In black leather and with gradation "Mazdaspeed" in the middle

Looks quite hot.

I'd be cpmcerned about counterfeit seats. No idea how you could tell the difference? Maybe google it?

If you mean counterfeit seats of Mazdaspeed seats, unlikely.

They are from Japan's Yahoo Auction and are used, you can't buy them brand new anyway.

Yeah, that's the guy I've gone through to get mine. Although he has a couple of sets already here in Aus, I decided on getting a set that went fresh on the auctions. Although the photos on the AstinaGT site of the seats already in Aus are much more comprehensive, the couple of photos I saw for the seats I went for seemed to imply that those seats were in much better condition.

When they arrive at the trader's place, I'll ask him to do a bit of a compare for me against his current seats (if they haven't been bought yet) to see what the true state of them is.

will you now?

They're MS Sports, not Type-Fs. The Type-Fs are the single color suede ones (unless they're the RX-8 version in black/grey mesh).

And i don't think counterfeits even exist - there isn't enough of a demand for the originals to warrant someone copying them.
