I have recently had a set of TEIN Super Street Dampers installed in my NC.
As it has been for many years now, the work was done by my good friends at IS Motor Racing (along with the install of my new intake. I had wanted to track the car in it's stock form at least once prior to making such changes, but with the gear sitting at the workshop, and a rare day off during the week, the temptation proved far to great!
Height was set with the stock chassis settings in mind, just lower. So headlights still sit at a similar level, but the car sits lower. Appearance is drastically improved, although the inadequate stock offset is now even more apparent! But this will be rectified in due course.
The Super Street springs are similar in diameter to the stock ones, and as such, i have found very little compromise in the ride quality. Which is good, as my daily commute is 220kms, and my co-driver likes to catch up on her beauty sleep in the mornings, so i was looking for as little compromise in this area as possible!
The largest improvement over the stock suspension is in the dampening. Mid corner bump steer has been greatly reduced. The car is more composed on the road, and sits much flatter in corners.
Haven't noticed any additional suspension/on road noise either.
Having changed the suspension on my old car 4 times, i have tasted many different setups, and as such i'm familiar with how much improvement and what pitfalls can exist when swapping suspension components around. All in all, i have found these perfect for my application.
In summary:
Improvements
- appearance (subjective, i know!)
- reduced bump steer
- flatter cornering
Compromise
- lower vehicle (heigh is adjustable, however)
- no damper adjustment
- not communicative/stiff enough for dedicated track use

I considered the Tein's however couldn't justify spending a few thousand on coilovers just yet. However in saying that I’ve heard great stuff about them.

Nice work, the car seems to be getting along quite well, with some great goodies.
I have ordered some Tein SS for my NB and can't wait.
Just a question, you say that you don't have damper adjustment?
I'm pretty sure you can adjust it, it's the Tein basics which are only height adjustable and not damper adjustable.
The only problem I can see with the Tein SS, is that it's not height independent.
Also are you using Tein pillowball mounts or stock?

I stand corrected. 16 step adjustment - didn't realise they are basically as per the FLEX without the uppermounts for EDFC/camber adjustment (neither of which i really need). At least they have that fine reputation

The last set of coilovers in my old car only had 4 steps and after playing with all the settings i only ever stepped between 2 or 3 steps in the front and rear. I expect these will be the same - they will remain as is until i get to the track, and then i might play with increasing stiffness front and rear. I've played with EDFC in friends' cars a few times, haven't manually adjusted TEIN via the strut tops before though. The TRD adjustables had 4 labelled points of adjustment so they were easy enough (apart from removing the boot lining which became a regular routine for track days.

Stock. Happy with the the range of adjustment provided by the factory and don't see myself need upper adjustment for running phat offset at the moment. As much as i would like to! Have to allow compromises for my daily driving activities.

I drove some Tein SS's a few moths ago in an NA8. Absolutley loved it. They are a fantasic compromise. When my car grows up........it can have a set of them.
