At the top of my head here here are some seats that will fit, w/o having to be a contortionist to get in and out and also take seat harnesses:
Reclinable - Mazdaspeed Type F, Recaro Sport JJ or SR 11, Bride Gias or Stradia
*Bear in mind that the fitment of a Roll bar/cage, which takes up some cabin space, may effect how far back the seat may slide back or recline. This is not the 'ultimate' list of MX5 seats, just what I have tried personally and what are in friends' MX5s.

I've a Roadster mag (No51) I was just perusing that has a seat test in it, They have a Bride GIAS sport thats a recliner and has photos of it fitted into both a NA and NB. Have also seen bride adjustable rails for the 5 so fitting should be a bolt in.

Nice. The Mazdaspeed seats I think would be perfect. I had a brief sit in them at Mania as I mentioned (or have I not mentioned this? I forget), and thought they were quite good. Add to the fact that they fit into the car and still guarantee movement (even if it's reduced) and we've got a winner.

Does anyone know how/where to source them? I did a bit of googling, and the few sites that have links to them seem to either not work or not have the seats listed. The miata.net forum mentions a price of about $800-$900 USD, which, although high, I may be willing to pay.

Darryl: That'd be great if you could. I wouldn't mind having a squiz. I get the feeling a Bride will be more expensive than the Mazdaspeed seats, but the more I know the better.

Thanks for that Darryl. I've always wondered what the Bride website is. Doing a google search turns up nothing, but that's to be expected using the regular google rather than google Japan (if they have one).

The fitment looks like it's a fair bit clear of everything too, so those seats would probably do the trick. The question now is how easy is it to source them.

i remember pricing bride low max ages ago when i was looking at seats like last year.. i couldnt find anyone that would send them here.. but i didnt know any importers etc.. now there seem to be so many around you shouldnt have any probs.
the only thing id chace up is adrs and fia/cams (pending on what you want to do in them) i think that might be what actually put me off when i was looking.. im not sure how you go with aftermarket seats that arnt fixed back as far as track goes...? was so long ago i looked at them though.. i cant remember.. i do remember some one saying they were designed to be one of the lower sitting seats on the market made for small cars like the mx5.

Didn't one of the guys on the forum have a Bride drivers seat fitted to his NA? I remember he took a piccie of it and it fitted perfectly. I think it may have been a Melb guy with a stripped out interior and lots of other goodies (didn't he have the KG works centre tunnel carpet thingo and a Nardi wheel) ?

That Low-Max side bolster is going to wear out quick as you have to slide over it everytime you get in.

Back to the Sparco Sprints.

I know the Sparco Sprints will fit with a little modding/drilling in the Factory OEM sliders.

But are all mounting points in the Sparco range the same?

ie/ If i was to buy Sparco TEC and do the "Sparco Sprint modifications" will that work?

Get a Sparco catalogue and they actually show where all the mounting points are for each seat (if I remember correctly).

i actually had an intresting idea (havent gotten around to doing it yet)

but the idea is that you find a set (or one) of suzuki swift gti seats, they are pretty much like mini wrx seats, and they are reclinable. i dont know how much they are worth or how much work is needed to get them to fit into the mx-5 but they are pretty comfy for what they are.

stuff all support in them compared to the aftermarket seats in the previous posts. The side bolsters are flimsy. But the seats look the goods! (My brother is a gti freak)

That was Andy Wana. I dug up the details when I first had the notion of going seat hunting (couldn't for the life of me remember his user name until I searched for "bride seat" or something equivalent to it on the forum). He hasn't been poking about for quite some time, so I thought I might just leave him be rather than resurrect him. At least for the moment

I'm a fairly light build, and if the bolsters were going to cause me that much grief for getting in and out, I'd probably just hoist myself in either off the A pillar of the roof. Either way, this all depends on whether I go down the Bride path or not. Even with all the importers and whatnot, I don't think it would be cheap to get a hold of a set.
