If I really wanted to I'm sure I could ... :P

At the moment we are fighting with getting the eyeball vents off so we can get the radio out and put the new one in. Times like this I am glad that I have a bloke who wants to be my hero around to put in a bit of brute strength. Damn them things are hard to get out.

Bend some wire into a J shape and slide it into the vent (holding the long side of the J).

Then pop it behind one of the bars of the vent and pull it back out.

Hard to explain, but you are basically trying to get a loop behind one of the bars of the vent.

Now just pull it towards the back of the car, they should come out very very easily.

I got the radio manual too - WIll try to get it scanned this week.
When results speak for themselves - don't interrupt.

Thanks Sean. We got them out, it just took more brute strength than I had. ASE05 comes in handy occaisionally.

Wahoo, stereo in and working 8)

Just need to get a new tombstone to hack up now I know where everything sits and fits. Not exactly the plug and play option I was banking on but it should look just about factory with the new tombstone and gap filler in place.

Pity about that toyota logo, im sure a Mazda badge/sticker will make it look 100000 times better. :D
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

 Love the way you think! But once she is lovingly restored do you seriously think I am going to let people close enough to read something like that? Text 4' high so people can read it from the other side of the road takes something away from the restore I think.

It's been a while but the next step is almost ready to go! Peak Season kind of put my whole life into a holding pattern but I am breaking out!!! On 6/12/08 the original engine comes out and the spare goes in while I rebuild the original. Thanks to GCDDIV and the dodgy's in advance for their assistance / guidance / pointing and laughing ... delete which ever is not applicable.

And then over Christmas / New Year when I am having a bit of a break and I don't have to use my 5 as a daily driver the new soft top goes on. It is a quick job but will probably take a couple of days because I am going to respray the frame while I have the top off. ASE05 doesn't know it yet but I will be borrowing his mini marquee to keep any rain and weather out while the lid is off and the frame is drying.

We're still on schedule for a beautiful and completely rebuilt car at Natmeet 2010.
