Tuning AVO piggyback ecu's

Postby Bluey » Wed Aug 13, 2008 7:21 pm

Hi all,

im in need of some help concerning the "AVO Turboworld’s Subcom piggyback ECU". I have a sparkly new set of bigger injectors i want to put in as well as an EBC, FPR, pump and a few other bits and pieces... long story short its going to need a tune. When I called up the garage to get it booked in they said they hadn't tuned one before but as long as the tuning software for it was available online it shouldn't be a problem. Now after searching for awhile I can't find anything anywhere relating to the software for this, other then this colourful yet totally unhelpful poster AVO has :(

http://www.avoturboworld.com/news/avosmt_web.pdf

As I have little (err.. none whatsoever) idea as to the actual process of changing the piggybacks settings so I really don't like the idea of just pluging in a laptop and messing around in there to see if you even need any additional software?

has anyone got one of these and if so do i need anything and where it can be found?

(btw Im not the original owner and I have no idea who did the original tune)

i would have thought that the AVO website would provide a list of reps in your state . or you could just phone them and ask.

anyway, i think the subcom is the one that just controls a 5th injector, plumbed into the intake pipe just before the throttle body?? if so, then it will not be able to control your new injectors.

so, does your car have this 5th injector?? if so, i think you have choice to make:

stick with the subcom/ 5th injector, or use your new injectors and replace the subcom / 5th injector with another piggyback / standalone ecu.

have i got this right guys?? again, i suggest you just phone avo or their perth rep and ask them directly.

to be honest i'd love to upgrade to a more convetional stand alone ecu but sadly im lacking in the extra cash to buy a ecu ontop of the install/ tune plus the AVO website claims full tunability

"has the ability to intercept and alter signals from your factory ECU, giving control over fuel and ignition timing on almost all fuel injected engines today. Other options include additional injector control, an activation switch (for nitrous, vtec, vvti, etc.), O2 sensor metering and tuning, temperature compensation (allowing for better cold start after tuning), water spray control, and more."

tryed calling them but because of the time difference they were shut :frown:

oh, and yes its currently running a 5th injector

Not an expert by any means but it was my understanding that the intercepter could also run bigger injectors as well. Pretty sure that the stage 2 kit is bigger injectors and stage 3 is the standalone link computer. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong

Bluey- just get on the blower and talk the AVO guys- surely they will be able to help you out. Don't fax or e mail- best talk first- reputable businesses want goodwill which leads to follow on business.

Which tuner are you using?

Sorry, having a mental blank is this Leif's old car?
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

I have one aswell, though it hasnt been installed yet but I can't see how to connect it to a computer, it doesnt have a cord for that?
