ok i was very tired from work and playing WOW (yes i'm one of them) so i spelled it wrong (scissor doors) hope you feel warm and fuzzy .

Yes have thought of changing my seats to something else , but at 6'1 i didn't fit in the car properly with the standard seats (long body)so i did the standard sparco sprint change which put me another 2 inchs lower so i can now see the lights when i stop (used to almost be eye level with the top of the windscreen) . Have thought about changing to the non adjustable seats bolted to the floor which will put me even lower in the car and allow my helmet to be under the roll bar during racing , but all this is beside the point that if the car isn't useable as a daily driver for me (atm) and even with the low bolster seats it will still require a fair bit of gymnastics to get into the car (atm i can just step over the door into the car with the top down) with the top up or the hard top on.

your about my height, i have Corba Monaco S seats, and a cusco 4 point rollbar which pushes the seat a fair way forward, i can still manage to get out and fit a helmet under the softtop. maybe try those seats, or just put up with the inconvience of getting out of the mx-5.

Here's a new idea: suicide doors!
Suicide (aka front opening) doors only lost favour because of idiots who opened their doors into traffic, and when a car hit the door, it would cut the person in half rather than rip the door off. Now how often do you hear of people's doors being hit??

The (apparent) benefit with suicides is it's easier to get in and out with the door opened less.

Engineering wise it may be easier - I'm not sure. Instead of massive weight loading on the hinges at the front, it's the saem weight load as on normal doors - but the hinge is a the B pillar rather than at the A pillar. I don't know how strong the B pillars are.

(Or even scissor suicide doors!!)

I just can't see that being the case with the MX-5.

If you're having trouble getting out, leave the roof down and put it up once you're out of the car.

yes i do want to do it , not committed though. Will do the seats first just to try to make it a easier fix (the car park shuffle that is) and if that doesn't work will go the rest of the way for the doors and no i am not going to rehang the doors from the B pillars LOL , there is engineering and then there is Engineering. Will definately give the the autolock kit a look at.

One of the problems with suicide doors was the possibility of a door opening while on the move. On old cars this was quite realistic as door catches and hinges were often unreliable and certainly prone to wear. I have experienced doors opening on old cars on the move on at least 2 occasions. A suicide door opening catches the wind and the result can be very nasty. They were easy for ingress and egress though. Engineering a door is not something one would take lightly.

first you would need to put in a B pillar, after that I guess it would be a walk in the park
